This is why the death penalty needs to be abolished
    #16234268 - 05/15/12 11:32 AM (1 year, 7 days ago)

It looks like an innocent man was executed in Texas:

http://news.yahoo.com/wrong-man-executed-texas-probe-says-051125159.html

As long as we have a flawed system, executing people is a real problem.  There's no way to compensate him for his wrongful conviction...There's no way to ever even come close to apologizing to this guy...He's dead...and that's likely to be permanent.

All of the other arguments for and against the death penalty are meaningless when the system results in wrongful executions.

i dont think it should be abolished. i think they should give people a choice. i know most people that go to prison claim to be innocent; besides the black folk on first 48 who tell on eachother and themselves any chance they get. but me, if i really was guilty, i would rather die by lethal injection than sit in a cage with a bunch of rowdy mofos for the rest of my life. so i think you should have a choice. Nowadays people in prison are valuable though. thats another story.

Many people say that...but very few actually feel that way when faced with the death penalty...usually, by the time they are sentenced to death, they've become used to prison life and can actually see it as being much better than death...

I think if given the choice, there would rarely be an execution.

the suicide rate is pretty high in prisons. and suicide is hard in prison. you are watched all the time, every 15 mins or so. they dont let you posess materials to do it and they make it just comfortable enough for you to do some chores and count the days.

nowa days i dont think that this american society will last long and i think within the next 5 10 years prisons wont be active. but i have radical views i guess. i think that a 25 year "time out" as babysitters call it is a form of cruel and unusual punishment.  and the people that deserve these kind of sentences dont get them (rapist, child neglectors, pedophiles, corporate criminals, etc.) instead it is small time drug offenders, usually "minorities" if you can call them that anymore.

I think death should be voluntary then. If you get life but choose to die we do it post haste.  I also think all life sentences for violent crime should be hard labor to pay some of their keep. If it turns out they were innocent that pay along with other compensation goes to them.

Personally I'd rather be executed on the spot than face life in prison.

I would go for that...as long as they have the choice...That would save tons of cash on appeals, etc...

they already do work and it takes regular people jobs. They do work for 50 cents or a dollar/ hour tops here in the states. and this pays for toilet paper and candy bars in prison. and its not hard labor its stamping and other factory work that outsiders should be doing for atleast minimum wage. illegal immigarnants work for nothing in some prisons.

I'm assuming that you don't live in a building with steel cages, guards, etc...such things cost money.

Then we give them jobs even immigrants wouldn't take.  And all the sugar comes out of the prisons. I have spoken.

Oh yeah...it's like a 5 star resort in prison...

Golf courses, spa treatments...it's awesome.
