The Pied Piper of Sophomores packs it in * 1

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/may/14/ron-paul-ends-his-hunt-votes/

Quote:

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas said Monday he will not compete in primaries in any of the states that have not yet voted — essentially confirming Mitt Romney will win the Republican presidential nomination.

Even though I think he is a drooling dipshit he is still smarter than his followers.  At no point did this guy ever have any chance of winning either the nomination or the general election.  Now he is content to take what he was after all along.  Some kind of voice at the convention.

Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted. Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have. I encourage all supporters of Liberty to make sure you get to the polls and make your voices heard, particularly in the local, state, and Congressional elections, where so many defenders of Freedom are fighting and need your support.

I hope all supporters of Liberty will remain deeply involved - become delegates, win office, and take leadership positions. I will be right there with you. In the coming days, my campaign leadership will lay out to you our delegate strategy and what you can do to help, so please stay tuned.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

He's not dropping out, just focusing completely on his delegate strategy.  Media is twisting it.  If you've been paying attention to the state conventions lately, Romney doesn't have it in the bag yet, and Paul is putting all his resources there.

He also said as a fiscal conservative, he wouldn't allow his campaign to go in the red like Santorum and Gingrich did.

Quoting his exact words is twisting?  He's fork ready and he knows it even if the bots don't.

That says he is not competing in the primaries.  He is after delegates, and is no longer going to waste money on "beauty contests."  After this past weekend it looks as though he is going to take Oklahoma and Arizona. He is changing his strategy now that there are both precedents for abstaining in the National Convention and that the National RNC/GOP do not actually enforce a state's binding of delegates.

Do you seriously hold even a scintilla of hope that Ron Paul will be the nominee?

People are generally smarter than their followers...That's kinda how the whole "follower" thing works...

I'm just curious if this guy actually thinks that theres a possibility...It an honest question about the extent to which someone can deny reality.

The Paulbots have been denying reality for years, why would they change now?

I know how you buy into the anyone-but-Obama mentality, but I've got principles and feel like Paul is a much better choice than Romney.

My vote will reflect that in November, much to your disappointment.

I will not buy into the lesser of two evil choice. That line of thinking has gone on for far too long.

Don't be bitter.  I just wish that he was given a fair shot from the beginning.  From day one we were told he didn't have a chance, and everyone bought into it while at the same time Romney was shoved down our throats.

You honestly can't tell me you get excited about Romney.

I'm somewhat excited to have a businessman and manager but I am far more excited to throw the empty suit cunt out on his ass.  Also, for reasons I have repeatedly listed, I find L. Ron just barely better than Obama.  By the slimmest of margins.

I have been keeping a close eye on all the state conventions, and he's doing waaay better than he's been given credit for.  Like I said earlier, there are precedents for delegates abstaining and that the National GOP views delegates as free agents free to vote their preference.

Here's a website that shows the delegate count that reflects that.

I'll say yes because crazier things have happened.

Warren G. Harding went into the National Convention with the least amount of delegates and having spent the least amount of money campaigning.  I now ask, who was our 29th president?

I also bring up that this whole thing is more than just winning the White House, it is a movement to change the government, at the least the GOP, as a whole.

Zappa has stated in earlier posts that this movement will have to make inroads at local and state levels before it can take off nationally.  Well it's doing just that.  State after state, State GOP head honchos are being tossed out on their asses and being replaced with Paul supporters.

I haven't stated any such thing.  I have been quite consistent in declaring that the dingbat messiah never had any shot at all.

I am all for anything that breaks the current two-identical-party paradigm...but I also am a realist...I'm not going to vote for obama or romney...But I recognize that one of them, almost certainly obama, will win...

Just because you are passionate about something doesn't make it more likely to happen...you can still be passionate and work hard with reasonable goals.
