Damn! The plate of Scutellinia scutellata I am growing from one of my two slants has frizzy, random-directional growth that looks like a monospore culture. I can't verify this since I am still gearing up with my stains to be able to count the nuclei in mycelium cells.

I've got sterile work scheduled for Saturday. I'll put the the other slant on a plate. But don't get your hopes up too high, JavaDog and DanteB. :frown:

Hey guys,

There's some hope! The A slant of the S. scutellata grew out very frizzy, but I'm growing the B slant now on agar. It has a linear growth edge! That suggests a fertile culture. I just compared it to the A plate which was in the fridge, and the mycelium look different.

This is just a single strain (no sectors), which could have been produced by the cloning of a bit of dried mycelium or from a single pair of spores. So we don't know if it will fruit. Of course, we never knew if we could fruit it to begin with! :roulette:

It grows fast. In just a few days, I'll cut some wedges and send them to whoever wants to try them out.

Regards,
Terry
