My first graft-ling!

This is a Bridgesii that i grafted onto a pereskiopsis... I used a brand new scalpel dipped in everclear to make the cuts... I cut the pereskiopsis and i could clearly see the ring... The Bridgesii's ring was not so big/noticeable... I tried to offset it and get them to match the best i could... They are currently in a humidity dome @ 80F...
This is the first time i have ever grown cactus from seeds, let alone tried grafting... If you see i did anything wrong, or need to do anything, im open to suggestions!
Side note: Current pereskiopsis factory! Thanks Naum!

That is sooo cool! How old are these? Do I understand that these are seedlings? At that stage it almost seems like tissue culture rather than grafting. Do you have any idea what the success rate of this process might be?
Total, I wish you wouldn't have posted this... Now, I feel the whole obsession thing starting to move into high gear. Shit!

@nativenglish: I believe that with practice the success rate can be quite high with almost every attempt succeeding. I am only new to grafting and havent had success yet lol

You only have to overlap 2 rings... There is alot of info on grafting onto pereskiopsis' out there... I just did 1 more from a strain labeled "PC x ?" and i took a-lot of pictures... Should give you a good idea...

@OobyCoO: Yeah, I have been down this road before with cannabis. It turned into a 10 year obsession with commercial cultivation of the plant. But, you know what? I learned sooo much about all kinds of different things that I never would have learned if I had not involved myself with it.
I learned a lot of cool things about people by playing with with cannabis too... That's what I expect will happen here, but boy, it certainly becomes a singular focus very quickly... A little spooky, but a lot of fun also.

Total doesn't it feel good to get your first done.
Try and get yourself a few pere mothers going so you have a good supply of quality stock. I believe that if you start with a nice healthy stock then you will end up with a healthy graft

I don't think of it as a obsession I think its more of an addiction
You can graft very young seedlings to pere stock. I actuly find it easyer to graft tiny seedlings if you can get past the cutting and handling of such small seedlings.
The pics below are to lophs grafted 9 days after the were sown. As you can see from the photo you just have to place the seedling ontop of the pere vascular ring

GOT- Yea, im trying to get alot of pereskiopsis going at once atm... Both for stock and to give-a-way/share... Im getting pretty fast growth from them, and any retard can root pereskiopsis... And im too scared to sow my few loph seeds atm, being such a new cultivator... Let alone try to graft one...

There's two ways I've done this: vertical grafts (grafting to Pereskiopsis aeroles) and simply grafting onto multiple stems of the same stock. Vertical grafting is easy with parafilm, but its not all that great. The growth rate ends up being a lot slower. I have a few lophs vertically grafted but they're slow. It might be due to slightly older stock though. vert grafting guide

If they shrivel up and die. Trichos seem a bit harder to graft than lophs, at least in my experience. Sometimes I've had grafts that literally took a couple months before showing signs of growth.. but usually you can expect visible growth in <3 weeks.

Yeah, if they stay plump, and don't shrivel, that's usually the best sign that they're taking. Most importantly, don't touch them or wiggle them! Thats how most people seem to lose their grafts!
