Is this a Psilocybe species?
    #16196617 - 05/07/12 07:39 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Habitat: Manicured lawn in Central KY and Southern OH.

Gills: Dark brown, slightly attatched gills (maybe free, its hard to tell).

Stem: 2-4 inches in length, ~ 2mm wide, slightly lighter brown and does not bruise blue.

Cap: ~ 1-2cm wide, light brown, does not bruise blue, conical shape

Spore print color: Black

Bruising: Bruises a very dark brown.

Other information: Earthy, musty smell (not very strong).

If it is, I think it might be Psilocybe semilanceata (liberty cap), though it does not appear to have the nipple at the top.

Nice ID request, welcome!

Doesn't look especially magic to me, but I dunno.

not a Psilocybe.
probably Panaeolus cinctulus.
the prints should be jet black.

POst a pic of the spore print if you can.

GOt to be jet black black to be active.\

I'd like to see some blue bruising at the bottoms of the stem at least for pan cinct

Pan foes have been popping up everywhere lately.

Sure that doesn't have a brown spore print?

spore print is small (not sure if a pic will be any help).  I'm almost 100% that it is black, but like i said, its small and didnt drop a ton of spores overnight.

If it were dark brown, would that make a big difference?

you need a lot more than that to trip off them anyway.
they are pretty weak when found in lawns...

keep searching that spot.

what would the species be if it were brown?  What would it be if it were black?

Ok, I took a second look and compared to some pics of spore prints.  I'm fairly certain the spore print is dark brown.  Looks like mowers mushroom!  Thanks everyone!
