Connecticut To Become 49th State To Sell Alcohol On Sunday

HARTFORD, Connecticut, May 1 (Reuters) - Connecticut took a major step toward becoming the 49th state to allow Sunday alcohol sales when the Senate voted on Tuesday to allow liquor stores to sell beer, wine and spirits any day of the week.
Governor Dannel Malloy pledged to sign the bill that passed the Senate on a 28-6 vote following similar approval by the House. He said such sales would help Connecticut hang onto dollars that had been flowing on Sundays to neighboring Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York.
Malloy's signature will leave Indiana as the only state in the country to ban all alcohol sales on Sunday, said Frank Coleman, spokesman for the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.
"Our current laws have cost Connecticut businesses millions of dollars as consumers have flocked over our borders in search of more convenient hours and lower prices," Malloy said in a statement. (Writing by Barbara Goldberg; ; Editing by Sandra Maler)
Editor's Note: While other states have restrictive rules on Sunday alcohol sales, Indiana will be the only state with a full ban on off-premise Sunday sales after Connecticut's bill is signed. Minnesota, for example, allows the sale of 3.2% ABV beer on Sundays.

Wow. Fail on me for still living in such a backwards state as Indiana. Glad I don't really drink, though. Seen enough of my friends waste daylight drivin out of state for beer on Sundays.

If only they would capitalize on other drugs like this too imagine the money. Too bad it won't happen.

In a free society, the presumption must be that people can smoke, snort, eat or inject whatever they wish, so long as they do not harm others. The burden of proof should rest on those who would ban marijuana, not those who want it legal. That burden has never been met.

these laws are old and pointless anyway...
they were and in some cases are there to cater to the church folk, who dont want fire water sold on jebus day of rest

So much for separation of church and state. This is fucking America, founded on liberty. Such stupid, pointless, and draconian laws.

Kansas allows Sunday sales just gotta have a special license that most stores wont splurge for. Lucky me there's one in my town, too bad for them I don't drink.

You should move to California, Oregon, Washington, or Colorado.
I bet you feel like you are suffocating in Kansas. I know I would.

in Texas, liquor stores are closed Sunday and you can't buy beer till 12 or 1 or something like that. a man from Florida came into my store on a Sunday to ask about the liquor store next door being closed.. Said the stores in Florida are 24 hours. theres times on Sunday I wish I could buy alcohol instead of beer here

Way to go Connecticut! 1933 and you're just now lifting prohibition, meanwhile in other news, Colorado is about to make MJ legal for anyone 21 and over.
