Can someone tell me what this strange growth is ? (pics+some pin porn)

I know this is not green mold , and that it is myc. I have an other tub that I have an identical casing mixture on, and it did not form white bumps. The strain in the picture is Tasmanian. At first I thought it was overlay, but now i am inclined to think that it is strain specific, as the other tub did not develop this growth. Maybe its some form of sclerotia? I noticed that grain jars that are left alone too long develop similar growth. Anyway, insight into what this is would be appreciated.

To me, it just looks like mycelium growing up through the top layer of substrate. Looks normal. Keep letting it grow and it should entirely cover the top layer of substrate and will then start moving towards fruiting. No two tubs will ever grow the same where multi-spore is concerned.

How do you know it isn't trich? Because it sure does look like it...Could be the slightly blurry pics, though. I've seen RR recommend a scratch and sniff test: smells like shroom = good. Smells like dirt = bad.
What was your casing mixture? Even if done correctly, same procedure does not always equal same results.
BTW, There's nothing "strain specific" going on here. And Ps. Cubensis won't produce sclerotia.

that looks contaminated to me. I would rather discard it outside, if you are curious it would be interesting to see a cross section of the substrate.

This thread was moved from Advanced Mycology.
Reason: Absolutely contaminated.
The white mycelium may or may not be trich, but the fuzzy stuff is absolutely cobweb mold, easily treatable with peroxide. As for the bright white mycelium, if it's mold you'll know in a few days.
This is off topic in advanced mycology. RR

I am sure its not cobweb , and that in fact it is very fine myc. I am certain of this because it has started to develop knots. As for these white lumps, they smell like myc and feel like myc, then is definitely mycelium, right? So what was it caused by? Was it too much water? I will post another pic to show that its not contaminated.

So I had this happen to me one time only. When I spawned my grain>hpoo I had areas of thinner mycelium that did not behave like cobweb or turn colors. It became thicker as it colonized and as it broke though the casing and pinned I knew something wasnt right. I tossed it outside and watered it for a week. The next week I had my first two flushes of ink cap coprinus comatus.
It started in the fresh sub and choked out the grains I spawned with. Thats what your tub looks like its dong to me, the bright white being good mycelium and the rest being crap thats backing your myc into a corner. Might not be coprinus but the experience was similar. boy did i feel silly accidentally cultivating a weed mushroom

I have had those bumps too. Only once. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7971147/page/1
They're edible, and somewhat similar to scerotia, but I think it's really just confused mycelium that's trying to turn into a fruiting body. They eventually formed very mutated, random gill like structures on some of their surfaces. An example of the type of mutation that drives evolution, and/or retardation...

Mutations like that can happen for a few reasons. It's usually too short of consolidation time (from what i gather). It can also be from excesive nutrients. And i think workman (maybe someone else) said PE requires more fae than normal and even has a few posts showing a little experiment which would lead one to believe him correct. I'd link ya but im on my phone and i hate its browser.

Here are some pictures of what it looks like right before harvest. Definitely not contamination. This is Tasmanian Multispore. So are they because of ,

I think its the strain. I didn't pack the poly-fill tight and in addition to that fanned it 2 times a day. : P

Have you grown other batches in that setup before and not had them look like that? It really appears to have a lack of FAE. If you had the tub in a enclosed space that might have contributed. I would try taking the polyfill completely out of some of the lower holes for your next flush. That's assuming you're able to mist it and keep an eye out to make sure it's not drying out.

I have grown other strains using this set up, which yielded larger fruit. So it makes me think this is more strain related then anything else. I have not kept this inside the bag. I fan and mist it even during colonization because if I do not it gets cobwebbed. I have another tub of the same train that entered fruiting. Gonna post some pics soon.

Really? then pasteurize your shit properly. You should never have to fan/mist during colonization.

If it's MS then they are both different strains. even if the syringe is labeled, they will be different strains.

How do you pasteurize?
I mix my sub(field tested moisture , slightly wetter because of evaporation) and put it in a large aluminum tray and stick it in the oven at 170* for 5 hours. Is it wrong to do it like that?
I know some people mix everything in a cooler with hot boiling water. Should I do that instead? Or something else. I add 1tsp of lime per cup of compost or peat moss(in casing). It makes me feel more secure.
I had my stuff get contaminated consistently with cobweb when i didn't fan it.

Here is the same strain under similar fruiting conditions. Casing not as wet in this one.
