ok so i just started 5 BRF cakes. they are in the process of steralization. i am using a syringe gifted to me by my friend. he suppects it to be a cube strain but we shall see. ill post pics soon

yes he was not entirely sure. the syringe looked like this. 
the label reads, "you got hooked up! thanks from: sporeworks.com here's some free stuff"
then after an all night excursion of working hard i ended with 5 cake jars.
how long till any signs of colonization?

If a spore shop hooks it up with a freebie you can rest assured they are gifting you a cube. I'm thinking about making some brf cakes tomorrow. Did you just buy brown rice flour or did you make your own?

i bought it i don't have a auto grinder and am to lazy for a mortar and pestle. i got it from whole foods organic rice flour it was like 5.56 a lb.

You'll probably see signs of growth within 5-10 days. It could take longer though.

and to answer your question of how long to see signs, it could be from 3 days up to about 2 week
and with an older syringe i would say its probably gonna be on the longer side

I use tin foil lids with no contamination/problems. If you have real lids under there with holes in them, take the foil off. Also, if you're gonna use foil lids, make em a little neater so you can see your growth.

Its a pf tek and never occured to me t take the tin foil off the lid. and i agree much more natural to be unknown. it was sitting in his stuff for days i heard

I used to just throw brown rice in my standard blender and had great success. Just a thought, if you have a blender anyway.

They'll colonize slower because you aren't giving them any gas exchange/air. Do you have a lid under that foil with four holes punched in it, then a layer of vermiculite? That's your filter. Definitely lose the foil. And don't worry if there are no signs for a while. It probably hasn't been that long.
