A male guest at a Motel 6 in Ann Arbor left a lot more than his briefs behind during a recent stay: he forgot his duffel bag full of cocaine, marijuana, and a loaded gun, records show.
Perhaps more startling to the hotel staff was that he came back for the bag, only to get arrested in the lobby.
According to a complaint filed today in U.S. District Court, charged was Damario Tubbs-Smith, 23, of Ypsilanti, who checked into Room 305 at about 9 p.m. April 18
He paid for one-night’s stay at the Motel 6 on South State Street, and checked out the following morning, records show.
Turned out, he forgot a blue, Nike bag in the room that contained cocaine, marijuana, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, two boxes of ammunition, and two pair of Hanes briefs, records show.
The head housekeeper had turned the bag into the manager, who opened it up and discovered the contents inside, records show.
The manager called authorities. The police arrived.
So did the guest, who came back for his bag, only to get arrested.
Court records show that Tubbs-Smith had called the motel earlier in the day and asked if he could pick up his property left behind in Room 305. He told the desk clerk that he was looking for his blue Nike duffle bag, records show.
During his arrest, authorities also found more than $4,000 on Tubbs-Smith, an iPhone and his wallet with his Michigan driver’s license, records show.
Tubbs-Smith was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, and using a fire arm during a drug trafficking crime.
He has not made an appearance yet in federal court and an attorney has not yet been listed for him.
How the hell do you, of all things, forget your duffel bag full of coke and weed? I'm guessing this was probably his most valuable asset he had at the hotel...and he forgets it?! WTF. Dumb ass deserved to be arrested.

Not can I not comprehend how you forget something like that, but if you left that somewhere, why on EARTH would you call and see if they found it. I would have just cut my losses there, but then again, I wouldn't leave a dope bag, no less dope dufflebag, laying around.

You have that kind of money and drugs and you stay at a Motel 6 in Michigan? He probably was transporting the drugs for someone else that maybe would come after him for losing the drugs would be my guess.
Guess he was hoping they wouldn't look in the duffel and just turn it in. He can probably kiss his 20's and more in his life goodbye including his hyphenated wife.
