She didn't sell him out, read the article, she wouldn't let him go alone so she went with him, he was going to go anyway. The only way him and his family might have got away unharmed would be if they fled to the south the instant they got that call, and thats not even a guarantee
Although I do still agree it is fucked up, I just wanted to give you all the context
