Does anyone know about how large salvias root can get? I have some good sized pots but I don't want to use them unless I have to.

Salvia divinorum in pots develop roots pretty quickly. They can easily fill a 3-5 gallon pot, but since they are sensitive to over-watering it's best to gradually step up to larger pots.

Salvia is a beast under the right conditions.  I have one indoors back in the Bay Area that is at least 10 feet tall, in a pot that I would guess is 15 gallons.  I have heard that they get much bigger though.

i had some monster old growth salvias back in the day. they were in 15 gallon pots and i don't think they needed any more. i usually just put them in there from 1 gallon pots since they grew so fast. i wish i had taken pictures of their gnarly, old, thick, twisted trunks. i can always do it again if i want though.
