Perhaps you could post a pic of the jars?

Those are the jars I used when I started. They'll be just fine. They have a slight taper. test that idea by setting them on a shelf and sliding it tight to the wall.

Those are the ones I was talking about
Why do you have foil on top of the lids?

Will do.. the foil is for airborn contams. The lids have four holes on top. And also mycelium is growing on top of the vermiculite layer.

People advise to remove the foil from on top of the lid after inoculation because it hinders GE and consequently slows colonization
The dry verm layers purpose to keep contamination at bay

or are you thinking the dry verm is inefffective because its getting colonized as well?

The reason the dry verm is being colonized is because of the foil being on the lid. It creates condensation in your dry verm layer and mycelium wants to grow on it.
IME if your dry verm layer gets colonized you end up with potential bacterial contams. You need to take that foil off asap if you have a lid with 4 holes on it.

Did you cover your holes with micro pore tape ?

You don't need micropore tape when you have a dry vermiculite barrier. Now that it's wet though it's not a bad idea but still not necessary.

I would have done that... you have myc trying to colonize an unprotected substrate. Maybe you'll be fine. But pore tape is cheap bro. Could save your jar, which could produce a 1/4 oz dry.

9 are 90% colonized while 2 are at about 80-85% colonized and one is like 50% not sure y thats the one u see on the post pictures.

Are the others as wet as the one at 50%? Contaminates could be what's slowing it down since you let them get moisture in the dry verm layer.

Ive never put foil on top of my lids while colonizing and ive had mycelium growing on the dry verm layer on several jars
And I searched the forum and found that this is pretty common.
I dont think foil on top of the lids is what causes it
