Weight Loss: call for support and encouragement
    #16106490 - 04/18/12 02:32 PM (1 year, 1 month ago)

Hi everyone, just starting an anon thread because I have been losing a ton of weight, and it feels pretty good, and thought it might help if I could share it anonymously and openly, and create an opportunity for anyone to add any of their pearls of wisdom and what not.

Basically I put on lots of weight (4 stone) this past couple of years (hit my 30's and had some very tough experiences that destroyed my confidence), and then, a couple of months ago was diagnosed with a syndrome (that I experience intermitently) that hit me all at once, which affects your libido.  Since then, I have had very little appetite, and have had to change the way I eat according.  I now just make myself a smoothie with all the nutrients my body needs, and try to have a meal in the evening.  Seriously, thats all I can fit in and I have been given the ok from the doctor, as the first few days were hell and I was unable to eat anything.

Anyway, I have lost about 21lb's in about 6 weeks.  This morning I was 13.9 stone.  So I am getting there.  The weight loss hasnt seemed to slow down either, which maybe because I am still very overweight.

It has been hard, the things that happened to me made me very depressed so I stopped mountain biking and didnt go on as many hikes as I used to.

I really hope I can muster the confidence to do these things again soon, as I am happyest when shitting myself cruzing down some forest trail and I would be very interested to see how much extra weight comes off.  I think when I do start getting a few miles under my belt, I shall probably (hopefully) regain a little appetite, or at least need to force myself to eat to get some energy down me, but how I see it, just stick to what makes me feel good.

Feel free to share your thoughts, I will really appreciate it.

xxx

I lost right around 100lbs in about 20 months, through diet and calisthenics.  There are the pics to prove it too...

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to pm me or just ask in this thread.  I figured out how to loose weight all on my own, no books or internet help.
It is easy if you have the time to preplan all of your meals...  It's all about your diet.  You can eat and never be hungry, you just have to eat the right foods.  I was eating 2000-3000 calories the whole time and I steadily lost weight.

know the extra skin you have left over?  Donate it to burn victims.

Seriously.  I have a friend who had a gastric bypass.  She lost almost 300 lbs in two years, and had tons of nasty flab skin.  She went and donated it.

Shitty thing about fat...  once you develop those fat cells, they are there for life.  Albeit they can become tiny, they will instantly fill back up.

Keep up the good work friend, cause the more you lose the longer you will live.

I don't have too much excess skin.  I am trying to fill it out with muscle too... The worst part is the stretch marks.  No way around those.  People have told me to try this or that.  In a nut shell if there was a cure all for stretchmarks, it would not be in a $10 bottle of lotion... The same way pills that make your dick bigger are not going to be sold overnight on TV...
If they do find a cure for stretchmarks, or a big dick pill, big pharma will be all over that shit and it will cost a small fortune...
The best cure for stretchmarks I have found is to just get over it.  I have come to terms with my body and accept it the way it is.  I may have stretchmarks, but I can lift a fuck ton of weight, and out run any one I know...  What I am trying to say is it's all relative.

I would love to donate my extra skin, but I don't think I have enough... Especially if they would do it for free as long as I donated...  I've got a spare tire that is 75% skin. Even when I was down to 180lbs it was still there...  I am back up to 220ish now.  180 had me down to skin and bones.

Skin donation is definitely not free.  After they harvest the skin it is a three to four day hospital stay on IV antibiotics.
Time is Money.

I always used cocoa butter for my stretch marks.  It worked, but using nothing probably would have worked as well.

Cocoa butter seems to work best for me too.  They fade but there are there, also after a point lotions don't do much, like a ceiling effect.  Sunlight helps a lot as well.

Hi Winton and Jim, thanks for your tips!  This weight gain is relatively new, I mean before it started to pile on (due to poor control/low self esteem/eating too much, no two ways or excuses) I was no supermodel skinny skinny and was happy not to be, but I was very fit, and I miss that.  But at the same time, I am having to contend with low confidence with my body image, which makes me a little nervous about getting out.  But I can do it, I feel confident in that, and this recent weight loss is kind of giving me the boost I need to kick start.  So, I have lost 21lb's so far, and would probably like to lose another 35 or so, but no more than that.  I was happyest when I was 11 stone.

Skin sag is a bit of bother, but I guess I shall have to live with it, I am kind of hoping that as it has only been a couple of years it might possibly snap back?...I dont know

I used to do a lot of push ups and sit ups etc, but I worry that if I do calisthetics before I have got rid of the fat then it will all turn into muscle, which I dont want.  Muscley women are cool in all, but that look isnt for me.  I know I am probably misinformed, and would appreciate any response you can give in relation to my worries about this.  If these can be resolved then it would be great to start doing all those exercises again!

Oh, best advice evar... Stop getting on the scale... Weight is not important.  Take measurements.  They a much more accurate guage.  Also, every week get just about naked and take a few pics, front back, side.. I don't want to see them... lol.  Regardles if you loose weight, you will see the change and your clothes will fit better.

A litte misinformed, not to bad lol...  Fat can not turn into muscle, like that.  You burn fat for energy to make muscle if you don't eat enough.  So fat does turn into muscle, just not that simply.  Calesthetics, or w/e lol, will not cause you to gain mass really at all.  Until you get in to doing tons and tons of pushups/pullups.  Even then you will never ever get bulky.  It is almost impossible for women to get built with out added testosterone.  So you don't need to worry there.

That is a look at cross-fit... Even at my strongest I could not do what they are doing in that video...

What exactly is your workout routine?  And what is your diet like?  Your at the point where the weight is not going to keep coming off.  You will be losing fat, but not much weight.  It is very frustrating when you let the scale tell you how much progress you have made...
Best all around way to loose fat running long distance fast.  You burn about 100 cals every mile you run or walk.  It does not matter very much how fast you are going, to go a mile or Km it takes so much energy.  If you walk 4 miles in an hour you will burn about 400 cals.  If you run at 8 miles per hour you can burn 400 cals in half hour.
After running I would say calestenics are best, you can easily get over 600cals an hour that way.  Cycling is much easier, Youll burn about 40 cals a mile, if you keep in the right gear with proper tension...
Don't be afraid of weights either, I assure you, you will not be muscly looking ever.

They are the strongest women on the planet, not really to bulky...

That first video was awesome! inspiring!  The second was a little scary, I have to say, I really wouldnt want to have thighs like #2 bird.  But it did make me think, muscle is much more attractive than saggy flab, so I should get pumping eh!....just, one of things I have noticed as a woman putting on weight is how mascualted I feel, which has really destroyed my self confidence.  One thing I did wonder about the first vid, is, have any of those women ever been overweight anyway?  Would a women (in her 30's) who has been overweight who starts that stuff end up as fit looking as that? And, also, I have heard muscle that doesnt get used turns into fat, so in some ways, the more muscle, the more potential fat?  I like to enjoy life, and shall never be one of those people who lives for exercise, certainly, exercise when I am happy is a natural and big part of my leisure, as I always did quite a lot of hiking and mtbing, but, I did it for pleasure, not as part of a high maintenance work out routine to obsess over and I would hate for it to become like that.

As for routine, right now it is virtually nil, and has been for a few months because I have been so stressed.  When I used to do all that stuff in the past (stopped a couple of years back when work got heavy), I would do four sets of:

20 wide armed and 20 narrow armed push ups, 40 stomach crunches, 20 lower ab exercises where you lie on your back as though you are sitting down and lower and raise your feet, 20 core exercise where you are on all fours and stretch your left arm out as you stretch your right leg out and swop, and 60 leg exercises (20 up and down, 20 circle ones, 20 in and out).

I think I could manage starting off on 2 sets of these once again and work up from there.

I have always been quite a hill walker, but as I say, havnt been getting out much for the past few months, I used to average 3 miles on a working day, and 5-8 on my days off.  I kind of feel confident to get back into that again in the coming weeks, and I used to go out mtbing for a few hours every weekend, but dont want to do that until I get a few miles under my belt or else all my mates will be ripping it out of me for not being able to put out when I next go back to the trails lol...*sighs with reminicense* ...(they wouldnt really, I would just feel embaressed)

Diet? well, as I said in my original post, something weird happened a couple of months back that seems to have affected my appetite.  I am having one meal a day (if I can) (something cooked, stew, soup, porridge, or...ha! I baked a lovely vegetable pie the other day, made my own pastry and everything, yum, one off treat!), and I am having a soothie which I can just about manage, to give me at least a little nutritional sustenance throughout the day if I cant eat anything.  Thats just made with water, an apple, curly kale or spinach, green barley grass, chlorella, milk thistle tincture, hemp protein powder, maca, 2 tsp tahini, 2tsp flax oil, 1tsp of high quality fish oil edit:lemon and ginger to taste : ).  No snacks, but I have a little raw/dark choccie in the evening after dinner.

Ill take alook at your routine in a little bit. Just want to let you know that youll prob never look like those women... Most of them have never been overwieght... You wont be flabby persay but yea...
The thing is the amount of self confadence you will get from changing your body type will make up for any and all physical defects you may think you have.
