I know I should have done the right thing and do everything from scratch but what can I say? Im lazy) any way I also ordered some spores (from shroomery sponsors) so here is where I got to ask some questions: should I use the incubator (have read that room temp is ideal for Cubenesis) should I throw out the cheap lights and use some daylight cfl's at 6500k, is the perlite going to be enough cause the container is 56 quarts and they only give you 2 gallons of perlite... any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

You could do the same thing for half the price or less... but... since you already did it....
Any light source at all will work for cubensis. They just need to know which direction to grow. CFL's or incandescent work just fine.
Approximately 70 degrees is great for incubation. Don't go over 80. That could dry out your cakes or grains or whatever.

As for the light 6500k is optimal.
A bit of searching will show you the truth about lighting.

Im planning not to use the lights that come with the kit I will use a 6500k cfl natural daylight instead. am I correct in assuming that you want blue spectrum? also should I use the incubator to colonize because every where I read it says just to use room temp so I shouldn't turn the heat on until fruiting? Thanks for your help

When you unpack everything you kinda feel like, wow, I just spent how much on all this? But all that goes away and doesn't matter when you see your first signs of growth. 
Oh btw, I ended up having to contact them about my order bc it never got shipped and the guy said he forgot to send it out. So he sent it finally and it only took about 3 or 4 days after that i think.
I also got the drying kit, i went all out.

I've read a lot of good things about their substrate jars also.
Some of the best, and fastest colonizing apparently.
I wana start monotubs after this grow anyways. I'll be getting the fill kit from out-grow for that.

sweet! ya ill probably start when the first spores get here Im only doing 18 jars and will be using 1cc per jar... will the other spores keep good in the fridge till my second grow?

Yea I heard that 1cc was enough per jar, even though i used 3-4 per jar lmao.
And yea the syringes should be good, i've been told they can last a good 6 months in the fridge.
The longest I kept them in personally was a week. But i'm about to put one or two up for my next grow also.

at first they were room temp, but then seeing how it was getting in the low 70s at night, we put them in a styrofoam cooler with the heating pad the kit came with wrapped around it. then the lid is halfway on to allow air exchange, but keep i heat at the same time. It stays about 75F in there

Hey guys, I have used this kit in the past, as my first time growing. I agree it's decent for a first time grower, and yea I do make my own jars myself now and still use Midwest for the Rye bags, those I could not get right. Every time I followed the instructions the bags exploded in my pressure cooker, I gave up.
I still use the Mega kit as my incubator and most of the stuff I got still works! Just toss the lights that come with it out, they would go through batteries in hours, I just use my room light and have had mushies galore. Not sure why they even include them.
Obviously using a kit in general is the lazy mans thing but I'd recommend it for the money and their jars and bags are really good!

It's got the heating pad underneath it with a thin blanket separating it from the tub. It stays about 76-80F in there.

Hey, I'd recommend opening up the lid every few days to let some fresh air in. Although while still in the jars they don't need a lot of fresh air, proper gas exchange has been tested to help speed colonization. But as far as temps you are right in the perfect ball park. I like 78 as my ideal incubating temp. Some people like it warmer but I've had my best success At 76-79
Also you can keep the foil on the jars but just loosely.

If I were you I would spend 15 bucks on a clear plastic tub drill holes on all sides 2 inches apart and fill with 4 inches of perlite. As this sgfc will give you far better results than the old outdated unnecisarily complicated humidifier and air pump system

Yes, you're not going to succeed using what you already know doesn't work well. Build a new terrarium per the tek, which is shown on the third video segment, but watch all four.

I'm in the same exact boat, so could I just turn the tub that it comes with into a sgfc? OR, well I have 7 strains across 18 jars. down to 17 now, but could I somehow do a monotub with them out of the tub they gave me? I got the same kit he did.

You could use your brf cakes to spawn a monotub but I reccomend just building an sgfc and doing that a few i times because its really hard to mess up after the cakes are colonized on the other hand if you break all your cakes up and use them as spawn in a monotub theirs a chance it will get contaminated while colonizing the bulk substrate so its up to you but its probably smart not to put all your eggs in one basket. Besides, pf tek teaches you a great deal that prepares you for bulk later on

i would like to see you document your kit as a grow log . step by step with the instruction it came with and see what happens. This will be a good log that all first timers can look at before buying a kit off the internet . i wish you luck and hope it works out . If all fails you could then try a SGFC and see how that goes . Dont let people get you down , most are just trying to help .

I was thinking about that, but there's two things wrong with this kit from the start. Those being not enough perlite, and shitty lights.

Ya I plan on doing a grow log... right now Im still waiting for my stuff to arive (should get here tommorrow, but ya theres two things wrong from the start but its a cheap fix... not enough perlite, and the lights suck. I will replace the light with a 6500k cfl and I will be buying extra perlite. I might just drill holes in the chamber to make a shotgun chamber idk yet...

This was the kit I used for the first time that I ever tried growing mushrooms, and it proved to be very successful.
I was very worried at first about contamination because my jars had a funky smell to them and I ended up throwing out jars that I shouldn't have because they proved later to be fine.
Don't worry when you open your jars and see white spots on your dry verm layer.. it's more than likely not cobweb and is only mycelium that managed to colonize the vermiculite.
The kit provided me with a good amount of mushrooms and it gave me great confidence in growing mushrooms from there on out..
You're better off to use monotubs after this grow, I purchase my presterilized sub from outgrow and have never had problems with them. Great great great stuff.

If you'd like to see a growlog using the method in your kit type in the search bar "pmp grow" youl notice all of the threads will be from 2006 and before. Their is a verry good reason why their are no recent pmp grows and as it seems youl have to learn why on your own but theirs nothing wrong with that
Your kits method will of course work. A few years ago everyone did it that way. but now no one does and as I said their are several verry good reasons why.

And yes, we're noob mushroom growers, but you gota start somewhere, right? To be honest with you, as long as I see ONE mushroom grow, i'll be satisfied.

What I liked about this kit was the fact that I didnt hace to worry about the outside environment as much as I would if I drilled holes all over. I grew my mushrooms in a DIRTY workshop because it was the only place I could. I really liked the Air pump with holes drilled method the kit has, and now I meake my own I still use an air pump and have great results all the time.
Ive used the shotgun style tek also in a cleaner room, and it worked about the exact same as this kit. I'm still too nervous to grow in my dusty, dirty workshop without an air pump/hose system.
This kit was worth it for me just cuz it got me in this hobby and I learned alot..
Too many people try and suggest things and I like to just follow one way to grow, so i was in the same boat as you guys a few months ago..
Like I said before I still use all the equipment I got from them, except the lights obviously.. but thats a simple fix..
Extra perlite? Yea it wouldnt hurt.. they send it with enough to make 2-3" not the 4" that other places tell you, but I as able to get 95%+ humidity without 4" of perlite, so im not sure exactly why you need so much?
I added more perlite to my own homemade chamber I made once I became more confident and I think if you are not using a humidifier 4" is needed to keep up the proper levels..

my apolagies, i saw you talking about a growlog so i wasnt sure if you knew this used to be how everyone did it. so it does definately work
and im all for you guys experimenting with what you have as thats all a part of science! and im the same way with a lot of things. sometimes you have to do it yourself to really understand how it works. thats why i usually learn from my own mistakes rather than others
and rk, your cakes dont even leave the jars until they are fully colonized at which point they are pretty much immune to contamination until they begin to succumb to senscenence.

Yea I wasnt worried about them during incubating, it was fruting stage that had me really concerned. Alot of reading I did made a big deal about keeping everything so sterile and whatnot.. So I just figured better safe than sorry.

Hey, just stumbled upon this thread and I also just got the Mega kit from Midwest, so far I'm pleased with everything I got. I got my B+ from Ralpsters the same day. The guy I talked to on phone at Midwest highly recommended Ralphsters spores, and i was really hesitant because i wanted to use my credit card but anyways, all I have been reading is great reviews on them here, and i will give Ralphsters A+++ on service too!
My jars were all injected about 5 days ago now and all 18 are seeing nickel to quarter size spots on all of them!!! I'm so excited!!!

THIS IS OUR FIRST GROW.. we already know there are better ways but we spent a bunch of dough on the easy way and were going to try that, people dont seem to be able to read cause we keep gettin the same posts

There should be a paper with a link for a one time visit only to a few guides you can download. I thought it was gona be a hard copy set of instructions too.

lol I stumbled on this thread today. I currently have 9 Midwest jars noc'd up(Day 3). I'm not using an incubator though as I've been able to keep 73-76 temps consistent just in my closet. If you guy need the directions I downloaded the adobe files the link gave gave me I'll send them to you.
Any advice on temps from guys with few grows under your belts? Am I in a good range?

Your doing great! I wouldn't worry about the temp too much as long as its not staying consistently below. 65 or above 80 however your current temp is rather ideal.
Also its good not to use an incubator as people stopped using these a few years ago reason being they found the consistent warm temp, increase in humidity, and lack of FAE promootes the growth of molds and bacterial contams keep up the good work!

so you got the kit and spores, right? Have you inoculated yet?
My cakes should be at 100% sometime next week. After that, another week of consolidating, then I can birth my babies!

Does a kit give me anything I can't find a way to do myself? Because I'm not sure if I wanna spend that much, but the added security of knowing that you're doing it right must be nice.

Yeah and as discussed earlier the kit is outdated and much less effective. Roger rabbit (a god in the cultivation world commented in this thread about why exactly The kit is. Ineffective. Also its ripping you off as the items ain the kit are things like mayson jars $10 plastic tub $10 perlite $3 brown rice flour $3 and vermiculite $10

Hey guys! I started this hobby in January and got that same kit. People will talk shit about "kits", but its a good way to get started. The humidifier they sent with the kit works great... its actually powerful enough to run two kits with, i know cuz i tried it  as you get more experience you will try different setups then eventually you will want to try a bulk grow, then go mono tub. The light they send is a joke, ive had good luck with led lights. Their jars do rock, im lazy too. There spawn bags colonize well, ive messed up the tray grows ive tried with them, but im a noob to this as well. Good luck and good vibes!

Yea the lights are shit, i used my own LEDs. I tried doing a tub recently, but my quart jars molded and i haven't really messed with it anymore since.
But soon when the time is right ill be breaking out the kit again and probably ordering a pack of their jars since they worked so great.
Oh and btw, the drying kit i bought from them crapped out on me really quick.
So i just ended up putting them on paper towels in front of an oscillating fan.
