Ok guys, I'm a newer member here and so far I'm loving it as I figured I would being a long time troll. I see you guys don't have a radio, but otherwise a very complete and organized forum. As I said I'm new and I come bearing gifts, and I can bring radio to the table with the help of you Admins.
I have a strong working knowledge of shoutcast and SAM broadcaster. I've been head of radio for a number of different places during my stay there and every time it added a new and exciting element to the site.
Ideally, we would have this on a separate server in say, Sweden for example, and stream from there on an encrypted connection. This is for obvious security reasons. Although this can be safely done on the shroomery's servers, said servers are inside the US and are therefor subject to US Rights Law.
If approved, said radio could be up and securely running in little time, and with little resources. I can build a working presentation if need be.
I would however need a staff. Another mod or two and a few DJ's.
Personally I think the shroomery community could benefit from this as it would help bring members together, help spread site news and other important information, and we could collaborate with the sponsors and have contests with great rewards, etc.
So what do you guys think? Want to go into this further?

Best approach is with a working model, on your own servers! 
Then you can be provided(MAYBE!) with subdomain...

I say this based on experience...
I ran(still run) a minecraft server here for a few months...
Then it became a sticky in the gaming forum...
Few months later, i asked for a minecraft.shroomery.org subdomain...
I wouldnt expect to get anything that integrates directly into the main forum/site...
Thats prob not going to happen...

No no, Don't misunderstand, I'm not after any sort of special access to whatever. In fact I strongly advise against having it on the same server as the main boards, for a number of reasons. It's much easier to control a stream rather than contending with bandwidth, law, security etc issue's that would come into play more severely if placed on the house server.
The only access I and the radio staff would need is a sub forum to plan future contests, radio enhancements etc.

Radio up and running. Radio can be accessed via this link
That will take you to a shitty website I slapped together for the demo. Just click on the mushroom and it will prompt to open a .pls (playlist) file. Can be opened in winamp, foobar, etc.
Alternatively you can use the "play url" feature of winamp and simply type in the following:
184.172.155.217:27009 78.129.231.93:7874
Edit: It suddenly occurred to me that I left out a few details that may be of interest. Firstly, this stream is broadcasting in mp3 128k format. Secondly, currently there is a 5k (yes, five thousand) listener limit.

With the advent of so many more technologies and the increasing number of users on this site, it's likely time that this will work.
Just takes the proper level of commitment.
Why not give it a chance? Everyone/thing deserves a good go. Hell, the guy's already got a working model. We could've only dreamed of his proposal a decade ago.

Thanks for your support everyone  And yes, the radio model has been running for about 2 days now with only 2 disconnects that were 3 seconds and 9 seconds in length. Pretty good for a disposable server.

I will be shutting down the stream in a few minutes so I can torrent. If you try to connect and cannot, this is why. I can't say how long this will take to download as it's a rather large torrent. It is however being feed from a seebox so it'll max out my DL speed for it's duration, shouldn't take more than a few hours. I will post back in this thread when the stream is back online.

If I was going to start a radio station about shrooms and the music related etc etc, I would promote on MANY sites, not just the shroomery.

Catering to multiple websites would be a tremendous effort and I would need a staff of 5 per site minimum. Running a radio is a LOT of work bro, I mean a real honest to god radio. It's a great idea but it would be a personal challenge to me, never tried integrating before. I would think branching out like that would come after it's success at 1. Sorry guys, but I just couldn't do that alone, the work is too great.
