Shulgin Blotter Art Fundraiser 9

Please check it out;
Hello all, I am writing to you either because you have a direct link with the Shulgin Blotter Art Fundraiser or because you have a mailing list or circular that reaches large numbers of the psychedelic community. I am writing to ask for your help with publicity.
On April 7, the first batch of sheets for the Blotter Art Fundraiser go on sale and I am very eager to reach as wide an audience as possible with this. I would be extremely grateful for anything you could do to help us distribute the following release:
"The Shulgin Blotter Art Fundraiser is auctioning sixty sheets of Blotter Art, signed by Ann and Sasha, Stanislav Grof, Dennis McKenna, Jim Fadiman and Ralph Metzner, with all profits going to the Shulgins to help cover their medical expenses.
LSD was first put on blotter paper in the early 1970s and this quickly gave rise to a specialized art form of decorated blotter paper. Often the blotter paper was decorated with tiny insignia on each perforated tab, but by the 1990s this had progressed to full-page designs. After some time, art lovers began to collect the unsaturated (inactive) artwork, and since then its popularity as an art form has blossomed.
In late 2010, Sasha Shulgin, discoverer of the therapeutic properties of MDMA and hundreds of novel psychoactive chemicals, suffered a stroke. Although he has been recovering since this time, the Shulgins are struggling against a tide of medical and care bills. Sasha continues to face a variety of age-related health challenges. Despite Sasha's important work in the laboratory, the Shulgins have received very little monetary gain from their endeavours.
By bidding for one of these limited artefacts of psychedelic history, you can help an elderly couple who together have transformed psychedelic science, in a way that no fundraiser can ever repay.
AUCTIONS START APRIL 7 www.theshulgins.com ebay ID: shulginblotterartfundraiser" With many thanks.

Interesting. I'm glad the psychedelic community is rallying to help the Shulgins.

Well, I've bid twice and only increased the current price.
...someone with more dough than I have has already laid out a high bid.
I am unemployed and will have to just see what happens.
Take care all,

I put this page on stumble upon, as well as the ebay pages. Hopefully that will give it a little more attention. I'd definitely buy some if I had the cash. Hopefully they sell pretty well.

Also, as a heads up to people who can afford them, just realize that they will be worth far more in 20 years or so. They will definitely be collectors items.

Well, I for one would be much more interested in having blotter signed by Terrence McKenna than Dennis. Too bad he didn't sign a bunch (for whatever purpose) before he passed. Its a tiny bit misleading cause the E-bay ad just says McKenna signed, you have to look at the signature to realize it was Dennis.
Dennis is an interesting personality all his own within the psychedelic community though, so his signature is not out of place on the blotter.

Terence wasn't a fan of LSD though, but Dennis - definitely is
Also I always used to see Leary and Kesey signed blotters back when they were alive for around $100, now they're usually worth 3-5 times that. Shulgin hasn't signed much blotter, but those that he has are already worth in the $400-ish range usually. I'm betting once he's gone they may experience a significant increase, especially since a lot of the signers on those blotters are getting up there in age.
When I was at the Basel LSD conference in 2008, I bought a MAPS signed edition of My Problem Child (signed by Hofmann and Grof, since Grof did the Introduction) for $400. I didn't really want to spend $400 on a signed book, but bought it anyway, there were only 100 of these. As soon as he passed, the price jumped up to $1000. When I had a fire at my home, I was only able to save a few prized things (about 1 rubbermaid 20 gallon bin of stuff was all that was left of the things I had collected from my life) - this book was one of them...At this point the sentimental value out-weighs any monetary value the book might have...

What are they always fundraising for anyway, research or just living? I don't get why they don't just make some legal research chemicals, I'll bet he could make a bunch of money.

The shulgins have way to much dignity and respect to make money like that. Sasha is a legend and I wish I could donate more to his cause.

I don't think it would be sacrificing dignity to make money like that. After all the reason people are donating to him is because they've sampled his chemicals.
Anyway I guess I didn't think about the complications of living after a stroke.

The fund raising is necessary to help defray medical expenses incurred by Dr. Shulgin's stroke and subsequent care and medicine. These folks are not living high on the hog, believe me, they're just trying to make ends meet.
The fact that Mckenna, Grof, and others are willing to come to their aid in such a venture is a testament to the contributions made by Sasha Shulgin during his heyday. No one PLANS on getting sick, and no one PLANS on outliving their store of funds, but it happens.
I for one will make a purchase if it doesn't get too pricey.

Age is a much more likely culprit.
Stroke is one of the things that just finds us if we are lucky enough to get old enough.
My father-in-law is fighting to recover from a fairly massive stroke of a few weeks ago.
Recovery is much more possible these days since the discovery of new medicines that repair blood flow to the brain.

Yeah I clicked on "Completed Listings" to see the prices, they all went for pretty low total bids, looks like they raised a total of $4500 though, so hopefully that helps out a lot for them. And even though you didn't win a print smily, mad respect to you for bidding and helping them out - if you think about it, even the bids that don't win all give a push to the prices, so it all helps! Much love!!!

Talk about devastating...Sasha signed Tihkal for me in 2003-4? Somehow a friend had his email and I emailed him and thanked him for his contributions and what not...he emailed back thanking me and asked for my address to send a signed book. He mailed it as he promised (with signatures from him *and* Ann!) and I had the book and the box it came in since then. A few years ago I moved and the book came up missing. I am still upset. I didn't/don't care about value of money someday more the sentimental value to me. Oh well in this case just have to let the upset_ness go. Nothing I can do now.

There's three waves of prints to be auctioned off. Go to their website and/or reach the vendor website thru E-bay and you can see the three auction dates and the available prints.

The one thing that bugs me and its a unrealistic fear is coming from ENGLAND they don't guarantee it'll make customs but low risk unless its packaging or origin give it away
And why is it they leave Prof. Ralph Metzners name off Sig list on EBAY but u see it on the Sheet ?? And he is listed as signator on Shulgins web site ???
I'm just wondering weird oversight. Anyone else catch that ??
I'm just wondering not out to fight. I still want one !!!

If you read the descriptions they say the pics are not necessarily the same sheet you are getting and to look at the listed sigs to see which ones are on the sheet you are bidding on. Maybe he didn't sign them all?
While I don't know the packaging method I would personally just place it between 2 pieces of cardboard and use a 8 1/2 x 11 in document mailer. I would have to guess that it would never be opened an inspected. I would imagine it something of that nature falls into the very lowest of priorities for inspection.

LSD was first put on blotter paper in the early 1970s and this quickly gave rise to a specialized art form of decorated blotter paper.

It saddens me to see this thread. I hate it that people have to get old and endure the complications such as strokes that come with the age. My thoughts and prayers have been going out to you since this incident and will continue too. But since that christian psychobabble wont pay for your meds and other expenses. Im gonna head on over and bid on one of the sheets. Best wishes Sasha, incase you or Ann are reading this, keep your heads up and the tough times will pass.

Hi Folks,
I've noticed a few questions have come up in this thread so I thought I'd answer them. If there are any others, please ask!
1) Why is Dennis mentioned by surname in the item title? Unfortunately all signatories could only be listed by surname due to tight character limits. I know it is a bit misleading, but it's made clear in the description that it's Dennis, not Terence.
2) Could the sheets get held at customs? Sure, it's possible, it's just very unlikely. The donor of the sheets has sold thousands of sheets over the past 12 years and has never known customs to withhold a package. I'm including information for customs in the packages, just in case they get opened.
3) Why is Ralph Metzner's name not listed? I only made a single scan of each sheet, so the image you see on the listings might not be the sheet on offer. Make sure you read the descriptions carefully! The signatures you'll get on items you buy are the ones you'll see in the listing titles and description.
3) Why do the Shulgins need money? Despite all their work, Ann and Sasha have made very little money from their books and Sasha's lab work. Now they are an elderly couple and have to deal with constant financial anxiety and worry, as well as Sasha's stroke, his ulcer and other age-related difficulties. They are very much in need of our help. Personally, I am of the opinion that Sasha's influence cannot be repaid by any fundraiser... his contributions go far beyond financial worth. Please dig deep and splash out on something you might not buy otherwise - you'll make a good investment and help the Shulgins. Everybody wins!
I know that the sheets look as if they are going for a lot, but they are actually selling at well under half what they are worth currently, if sold individually. As has been mentioned on this thread - current value is only going to increase over the coming years. Sheets being won by some vendors are being re-sold at $750+.
So many reasons to get bidding!

The Shroomery definitely supports what you are doing and I love this community dearly, since you are brand new here Shulgin_Fundraiser, I just wanted to point out that the moderators here made this post a SITE-WIDE sticky, meaning that no matter what forum you visit here, this is the very first thread at the top of the page you would see within that forum. I'm just a regular member, no mod or admin or anything, so this I just coming from me, but this place rocks and I think the whole community wants to help give back to those who have given so much to the psychedelic community.
And thank you for all that you are doing!
Much love and light! DW

Everybody needs to bid higher! We've got to get these prices up to help the Shulgins!

They've done so much for so many of you, now is your chance to give something back. Don't waste this chance to help someone who has helped you.
If you've ever taken 2CB, DOx, 2CE, 2CI, or any other Shugin compound then you have a moral responsibility to bid these sheets higher! Even NBOMe wouldn't be around without Shulgin. Bid now.

The first round of prints was the cheapest.
Prices will go up from here.
This will be the easiest time to grab these prints.

Don't forget about MDMA...
I don't have the $$$ to buy a print but I think if there were a link to a donation type of thing I would for sure donate money from time to time when I had an extra few bucks.

LSD was first put on blotter paper in the early 1970s and this quickly gave rise to a specialized art form of decorated blotter paper.

Yes, it was used back when we used old fountain and quill types of pens. I believe that it was used to take up excess ink before one started writing.
(I am kinda guessing, but, yes, it has been around)
Take care,

I know. I've bid on another 6 or so. I'm not sure if I can really afford to win them all, but once the old master kicks the bucket I'm sure they'll be worth more than 1k a piece, easy.
Not to mention all the indescribably awesome times I've had on some select chemicals . Beats having some lame ass painting on your wall.
People be like "Whats that picture?" Oh shit. Its 3 different blotter paper prints signed by the inventor of MDMA, you say.

I bid a bit more than I could afford for each print, and then ended up losing on three different ones.
Oh well. At least I got one print and didn't over extend myself.

I really wish I had the money to buy one.
Maybe some people think it's cool because it's like, the history of drugs as art. But really, it's much, much more. It's the silent voice of a generation. It speaks about the views, the culture, and the politics of the people. It is art which encompasses viewpoints, thoughts, laws. It is an amazing piece of the history of popular culture. I'm surprised that it hasn't been more advertised or sold for more. They are ALL remarkable pieces.

Hi all,
The current batch of sheets is nearing the end and lots of those sheets are ludicrously cheap. Grab some bargains while you can - you'll never see psychedelic artefacts like this at these prices again!
Who can help me send out the following Bicycle Day Bulletin?
Bicycle Day 2012: The Shulgin Blotter Art Fundraiser
eBay store: http://tinyurl.com/shulginfundraiser Website: www.theshulgins.com
Today is a particularly special Bicycle Day anniversary, as it celebrates the accomplishments of two great psychedelic scientists: Albert Hofmann, the father of LSD, and Alexander (Sasha) Shulgin, discoverer of the therapeutic properties of MDMA and hundreds of novel psychoactive chemicals.
It was 69 years ago today that Dr. Hofmann embarked upon the world's first intentional LSD trip, and his otherworldly bicycle ride from his laboratory to his house gave name to today's anniversary. LSD first started being distributed on blotter paper around thirty years after Dr. Hofmann's premier journey, and after a short time this gave rise to a specialised art form - decorated sheets of blotter paper. After some time, art lovers and psychonauts began to collect the unsaturated (inactive) artwork, and since then its popularity as an art form has blossomed.
This Bicycle Day marks the launch of the fifth and final round of auctions in the Sasha Shulgin Blotter Art Fundraiser. The remaining 10 of 58 sheets of rare blotter-art, signed by Sasha and Ann Shulgin, Stanislav Grof, Ralph Metzner, James Fadiman and Dennis McKenna, will be auctioned on eBay to raise money for the Shulgins' extensive medical care bills.
In late 2010, Shulgin suffered a stroke. Although he is recovering, Ann and Sasha are struggling against a tide of medical and care bills. Sasha has spent his life doing basic research and giving his work away for free and although large sums of money are being made from the fruits of his labour, Sasha did not make much money. Funds raised from the auction of these limited artefacts of psychedelic history will help an elderly couple that together have transformed psychedelic science in a way that no fundraiser can ever repay.
These sheets, which are signed by some of the most brilliant and influential thinkers in the past 60 years of psychedelic science, have been estimated to have current values in excess of $750. These values are expected to rise substantially in the future. Yet, the sheets have been selling at well under half these values. Please, dig deep and consider bidding on these important items, either as a wise investment or as a kind donation.

Only 6 hours left on the final round of this fundraiser for the Shulgins. Now, we're still a fair way under our target of $20,000. These sheets have got to sell for a minimum of $320 each if we're to make that bell ring. Who's going to help us reach that target?
Blessings to you all!

I wish i had funds now. I suppose if someone wants to resell me a sheet for slightly above paid price, id gladly pay it. Wont have the scrilla for at least 5 days. assuming they all sell, which they will
I have a small collection of autographed blotter if someone wants to work out a trade. Have three signed by randal roberts(that one trippy homer simpson portrait) and 5 different alex gray autographed blotter.
