QFT. Some of my favorite artists nowadays are electronic music producers.
Also, check out grime if you want to hear some unconventional lyrics. Virus Syndicate has been throwing down excellent verses for quite a few years now. Here is a tune they did with Starkey, one of my favorite American producers:
This one's a few years old but I'm still in love with it... fiance has it on vinyl & it sounds amazing through the big speakers.
Don't give up on rap; it's just morphing into something else and splintering into sub-genres, as music always does.

Anyone heard of Akala? He's a British rapper who's totally against all the gangster bling shit. Therefore he's not famous...

yeah, i'm gonna go ahead and say it was soulja boi.
just the idea of becoming a millionaire off of one song about some colorful shoes basically told everyone that it ain't shit about what you say, it's how you say it, and how much money you spend to get people to hear it.
one of the reasons my broke ass isn't dropping out of college to do music. because unless you have connections, money, or a REALLY lucky break such as a viral youtube video, then you have absolutely nothing but years of hard work doing local stuff making local money reaching local ears.
thanks, soulja boi
