Marasmius elegans, seems like a good match:

Hey vic hunters!
First of all this is my first post, so thanks to all the regulars for great info and pics! its been an amazing build up to the season! looking forward to sharing my finds with you all! (active/inactive)!
So went on abit of a hunt with my girlfriend and discovered a new patch, first of the season! took enough mature subs for a good night together. Very dry so satisfied me enough to wait until its in full swing

I'll be starting one after the next hunt I do, but seeing as you're keen, start it up now and share your pics with people.

Some manky shrooms I found today. After looking at the pics I decided to only keep the ones that hadn't been slimed by snails. ...I'm a little paranoid about getting meningitis (click here).

Holy shiteballz. Thanks for the heads up. I have a few half gobbled snail subs in my collection. Will have to get rid of them...

Hi guys.
Looking forward to starting to hunt this year. First tried mushrooms last year and it was amazing. Since then I've moved from the South of Melbourne to the Northern Suburbs. Heard there were a few good patches around here so I thought that I would hunt for myself instead of through friends
There's a creek nearby me which I heard was good for picking. Might have to head out after the next rains just to look!
I'm excited

Don't throw them away. If you are worried about bacteria on them, cook them.

10 cases in 50 years and only some leading to meningitis. Not only is our media trying to scare the public, we seem happy to do it for ourselves these days. You are more likely to die from being attacked with a plastic spoon, seriously.

@Alan - Yeah I could cook them I suppose if I was desperate for shrooms, but there's sooo many subs around Melbourne that tossing 5 manky snail slimed shrooms isn't any loss. I'd prefer to eat ones that don't gross me out. I'm fussy like that.
@Stopwhispering - The story is hardly scary. I think the story is aimed largely at parents, warning them not to let their kids lick snails, or anyone else for that matter, because while the risk is minute, there's still a risk. It's better to know than to live in ignorance. But if you want to continue eating snails, even with the knowledge of the tiny risk, please don't let anyone stop you. As for being attacked my plastic cutlery, that's a risk that has been, I think, purposely under-represented and under estimated for far too long. I think it's a conspiracy by plastic manufacturers. How many eyes need to be lost before people wake up?!

Yea I know what ya sayin' having said that I think kids should lick snails. We are making ourselves so week in relation to how we put babys in a bubble these days, and it only gets worse when our first reaction to minor sickness is to take antibiotics. It is definately better to know I agree with that but, we now live in a society where knowing = paranoia. Man if I took half the supposed risks that are associated with bushwalking through some of the places I do seriously I'd never go there.
Oh and plastic cutlery...shit is dangerous bro!
It's odd, I won't eat rotting/rotted mushrooms. I will happily pluck a snail/slug off of one and eat it no worries though.

It's dry as a nuns cunt around here(outer east). Not much sign of fungal life at all which is odd, usually the Leratiomyces ceres are in force by now.
