Lawmaker Wants to Outlaw Designer Drug 25i

RICHMOND, Va. – A state legislator is asking Gov. Bob McDonnell to add the designer drug 25i to the list of chemical compounds that would be outlawed under a bill recently passed by the General Assembly.
Delegate G. Manoli Loupassi, a Republican who represents the 68th House District in the Richmond area, urged McDonnell to ban 25i after police in Chesterfield County said that in recent weeks, seven people there apparently had overdosed on the drug and been hospitalized.
“I got a call from a deputy commonwealth’s attorney, and they were having massive problems with the substance,” said Loupassi, whose district includes parts of Chesterfield County, Henrico County and the city of Richmond.
According to drug experts, 25i is a hallucinogen; some say it is as powerful and dangerous as LSD. The drug comes as a white powder. Users, often young people, inhale it. Officials say 25i causes erratic and even violent behavior.
“One kid took five officers to subdue,” Loupassi said.
He asked McDonnell to add 25i to House Bill 508, which is on the governor’s desk waiting to be signed into law.
A year ago, the General Assembly passed a law aimed at prohibiting the sale and possession of synthetic marijuana and designer drugs called “bath salts.” HB 508 would expand that law by adding more chemical combinations to the list of previously criminalized substances.
If 25i is added to the list, it would officially become a controlled substance, and possession of the drug would be a felony.
If McDonnell includes 25i in HB 508, his recommendation would be considered by legislators during their “reconvened session” on April 18.
So far, the only reported cases of 25i have come from Chesterfield County. On Sunday night, about 300 parents met with county officials to learn about the drug.
Loupassi fears that if 25i remains legal, it is likely to gain popularity.
“I gather that it is going to start going to other places, too,” he said.

In a free society, the presumption must be that people can smoke, snort, eat or inject whatever they wish, so long as they do not harm others. The burden of proof should rest on those who would ban marijuana, not those who want it legal. That burden has never been met.

OK so why not ban everything that had caused 7 people to be hospitalized in the past few weeks? Cars, babies, doorknobs...

Dangerous compared to what? Guns? No. Cars? No. Using their logic Mcdonalds should be illegal. Doesn't pollution kill people... There are so many more dangerous things out there...
More lives would be saved if they put all of this effort into regulation prescription drugs more. Over prescription of antibiotics is creating germs that over a large timescale could come to wipe out the entire human race...

im a supporter of leeting people do whatever the fuck they want.
but, comparing 25i use to cars and other things is ridiculous.
the problem here is people not doing their homework, reminds me of a recent post by a member here.
not that banning will do anything to remove 25i from the market. its flooded all over here as well as DOx being sold as cid to dumb asses.
im so tired of getting fake shit as acid that i have to import the real shit myself.
sigh.

There's your problem right there. How many times do I have to say it? YOU CANNOT JUDGE THE INFINITELY SMALL AMOUNT OF 25i FOR PURPOSES OF INSUFFLATION. PERIOD. Stop doing this, people!!!!!!!!!
I know, these kids aren't even old enough to be on the Shroomery, but for Christ-sake, they're old enough to use a computer so they have GOT to be aware. They're just too impatient and too ill-equipped to do it the right way, which is to lay it on paper or dissolve it in an appropriate solvent at sensible strengths.
God, this pisses me off to no end. A handful of arrogant, idiotic, irresponsible kids fuck it up for everyone in the entire psychedelic community. Not only do they get a substance banned, but they cast a pall over ALL psychedelics generally. This is NOT the kind of publicity we need at a time when psychedelics are JUST BEGINNING to overcome the prejudices of old.
