I think sand and wood chips share the property that is important: no matter how hard you compress it, there is always empty space in the mix. Dirt just gets more and more compacted. Ever notice how the areas ovoids really love, the ground is almost springy?

That's funny, I did notice that springiness yesterday and wondered what was causing it. Grass roots maybe?
OvoidNoh: Boiling for 2 minutes will kill pathogens. Add 500 mg of vitamin C per 1/2 cup water as an antioxidant to protect the psilocybin. Sun dried shrooms should be fine.

ventured out again this past saturday and found my lowest amount of the season, probably due to the above normal temps (mid to upper 80's, summer like)

has anyone else found a connection with ovoids predominantly flushing off sycamore debris (wood and leaves), and ash? at least thats what i am discovering in my hunting grounds.

Way to go ovoidnoh. Glad your nickname has a new meaning. Definitely put on lots of bug spray... I had to get a month of doxycycline last May because I got the Lyme rash from a tick bite.
I've started picking even the small ones. I notice they often don't get any bigger if they've started to dry out at all, and anything can happen like not being able to find them or having deer shit or step on them.
It's raining again... Things were starting to get kinda dry!

My area is absolutely dominated by sycamores, but there also a lot of box elders, especially thickets of those green shoots that make traveling creek side difficult at times. As for what kind of wood they are growing from, I can't really tell since the wood is usually dark and very decomposed by the time it gets colonized by the mycelium. I always pick a nice sycamore branch as my walking and finding stick for balance and pushing away grasses because they are usually barkless and so smooth they don't catch on the plants I'm trying to push out of the way.

Just as a warning to all:
I found what looks like conocybes growing next to ovoids. Sorry for the blurry pics.

This mushroom looked exactly like an ovoid growing from a fallen tree until I looked at the gills. Anyone know what it is? Looks like an Agrocybe to me?
Notice the upturned margins. I thought that was a characteristic of psilocybes?

yeah those dont grown in my patch but other things do i have been ripping up the myc of the other mushrooms and just ripping them up as hard as possible trying to damage thier growth and now the ovoids are starting to do better while the other ones are appearnt less and less i did my best to destory the spring agrocybe growth and now they arent in the spot at all
BTW! does anyone else notice they have a really intense smell i have found places where they spread to near my patch by smelling them in the air then coming back a few days later any one else find the smell in the air strong after rain?

These were found in Seattle one April 13th and May 2nd. I haven't had access to internet since February so I've been a little out of the loop, but Im here today to share what I've been lucky enough to find this spring. The first three pictures are from April 13th. I didn't have a camera with me when I picked them so they are taken about and hour after I picked them. The rest of the photos are from May 2nd. There were more growing when I went out the second time. I plan on going back out again tomorrow. Ill try to get more and better photos this time. This is the 3rd year this patch has been growing. If not already posted somewhere on these threads, what would all you seasoned pros suggest when it comes to cleaning and drying out the ovoids... stumbled across a nice little patch after a round of d-golf this morning - what luck... will try to post some pictures and get some habitat shots up tomorrow after work... and BTW, I found them growing out of a decaying knotweed and debris pile atop sandysoil about at the highpoint of the last couple years' floods under a canopy of live knotweed... ding ding ding... If anyone has doubts about their existence in northeast PA, get back out there

Just wash them under cold water as soon as you get home. I made the mistake of leaving them unwashed for a day and there are little bugs you dont even see that will try to eat them before you can. Wash each one individually, and make sure you run water through the gills... place them on paper towels, then pat dry. They will dry fast if you cut them in half so them stems are open to the air. You can blow dry on low to remove any surface water then air dry them on dry paper towels.
They will never get dry enough to crumble in a powder if you don't take extra steps to remove that last 5% of water. I suggest you do want to make the effort. Get a plastic container with a lid that fits tight. Put a layer of Damp Rid on the bottom, then figure a way to elevate another flat piece of plastic (like a smaller lid) so that it doesn't touch the chemical drying agent. I cut a couple of one inch tall circles out of a two liter bottle. Put the shrooms on the upper deck and close the lid. They will get super dry in a couple days, or even better, put a little fan in there to move the air, and you can go from just washed to super dry in a couple hours. The drying agent will have to be changed when it liquifies.

thanks Koods,I just went ahead and borrowed my roomate's window fan and left it on them overnight while I was at work... did the trick quite well... what was the size of my palm last night is now a crispy silver dollar. Ended up going back this morning with more luck than yesterday... find one and then it was connect the dots for the next half hour. Then found some more growing under a different plant a few hundred yards from stream, though much smaller than the knotweed specimens... and upon checking each of these little plant bushes I found a few quarter sized ovoids at the base of each one... anyone the wiser to this cohabitation? Once again, will post pics when I can get out there with camera tomorrow -

There's something up with the ovoids that youre talking about... It's not that they tend to be smaller, they are always smaller than the creek siders. They are uniformly quarter sized and almost never in groups. Their caps are flat and the stems are straight and frail. It's almost like they are a totally different species.

It makes me feel better that you pick the small ones to. I got repel 100 98% deet at walmart and didn't get any tick the 4 hours I spent hunting today. I do not have the money for lyme disease lol.
Today was AWESOME. found a couple hundred. I put an id request since I found so many. If I get my-self sick its ok but with this many im going to pass some out and I don't want to f-up and make them sick. But all of them besides one (just gonna toss it) brusied blue. Same area as before. Just better conditions and less worry about tics lol.
