you should be ok,just mist the perlite a bit each time you mist the cakes, your sgfc works best if its full of cakes vs one or two, when mines full with cakes it preforms really well for a month or so before i literally rehydrate the perlite after i take it out and rinse with diluted h202

Soak the perlite when you put it in the FC and it will last you plenty long enough
EDIT: shit. Didn't see your reply on this 2nd page, CUBE, before I posted. I wouldn't have posted behind ya.

Cool, thanks. The reason I ask is the perlite already seems dry (at least on the top) and my thermometer only reads about 70% humidity. Is it possible I drilled too many holes?

If you've got a cheap digital hyg/thermo , and it's been in your sgfc ,there's a good chance it's toast already.

I also just noticed during misting that the thermometer jumped up to 85% humidity so definitely responded when moisture added

Nice read. do you have any pics of your cakes in the FC yet? I am on my first grow and went through 3 hydrometers until it read 90% and i think that it's still off. i might just get a $20 cigar one from amazon...
IRT the dehydrator, i do have one i use for beef jerky. do i need to disable the heating element or will the lowest setting suffice?

Ya man, that's what I was buying. I'm still using the thermometer part of it, but the hyg display is toast. I went through a few before buying a few of these through a suggestion in the archive here... http://www.bargainhumidors.com/bh/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ACC-ANALOG
They are working fine and I leave them right in my fc.

lookin good, but the sooner you get the other cakes in there the better because they take care of each other by creating a better fruiting zone the only thing i would change at this point would be your tinfoil, maybe use like a 1/4 of what you have pictured there,if im not using my lids to set the cakes on i use just enough tinfoil to catch the verm that tends to fall off when the pins start growing, the more surface area of the perlite exposed the better it will do its job.right now thats not a problem but once a chamber gets full of cakes, the excess tinfoil would take its toll on the evaping process.
