I disagree.
They are Psilocybe inski. Nice annulus.

As in this Psilocybe inski do they really get that blue all over?
Don't mean to sound rude they just seemed to be so obscure, just trying to learn and if I don't ask I don't know. Also the other mushrooms in the shots don't look much like a psilocybe at all.

Yes, that species.
Is the bluing related soley to alkaloids or is it the result of some kind of genetic mix between something like P.subaeruginosa and S.aeruginosa?

The blue staining is caused by psilocin oxidation. Psilocybe and Stropharia are far too genetically different to mate.

Thanks for the info Alan. I am still quite taken aback by these paticular specimens. I probably have more questions to ask on these but I will try to work out what I can about them by myself and then pester you and Inski for more info.

WHAT A DESTRUCTIVE WASTE [Re: fux234]

I saw something quite upsetting while out for a walk yesterday.
Someone obviously had been looking for mushrooms in a grassy/wooded public area and had literally devastated areas that may or may not have harbored them. Rocks thrown over, grass ripped up and substrate material chucked aside.
It certainly would not be doing anything to foster future growth and was an assault on the ecology generally.
Obviously the person concerned didn’t want to be finding anything next year.
Seemed a very short sighted and completely unnecessary way to be hunting.

Sub season signals [Re: Caught]

One thing I've noticed that I haven't seen commented on before regarding the timing of sub season here in Aotearoa is their synchronicity with one of the more obvious signs of the season, feijoas:
"If feijoas be dropping, the subs be a popping."
Like clockwork the little roadside feijoa stands appear and the patches are pinning. The surf is always having its best month of the year too.
What signals do others watch for?
