Also found these guys..

little skeptical as to if they are active?

Similar to subs found growing in dense clusters golden whitish cap purple brown spore print very light blue staining turning dark purple -black.

Any ideas?
Yes, I believe it is P. aztecorum, it has recently been introduced into New Zealand, most likely on purpose by someone in the horticulture industry.

Yes they are and yes they have. Viable cultures from spore deposits impossible to obtain, all fruit bodies almost completely sterile. Culture acquired from tissue culture. Fruiting on sawdust.

I think the lighter coloured ones are just semi dried ones. Probably been sitting in the sun for awhile. Someone else will confirm. Be careful pulling them out as well. You don't want to rip out the mycellium and ruin the patch. Looks like there's some in your 4th pic.

Found these growing next to a patch of subs growing on wood mulch around a train station. They have white stalks with streaks of red and glossy red/orange caps. The gills are a bluish grey. I've seen some active shrooms that look very similar to these. If I could get an ID that'd be great. I'll take some pictures of the subs and the habitat I found them in later on tonight.

Thanks in advance and sorry for no spore print.

Cheers, they all bruised blue so i'm just waiting on them to print. Yeah i normally try to pinch them off at the bottom when picking but sometimes it happens.

Ironically, after my last post about council contractors spraying, they appear to have a very active spraying programme going in the valley this week. I was in the Hutt with work yesterday and went past a very public area which produces, and it was being sprayed. Also saw them in city and stopbank areas. I was there again today, and saw spraying vehicles driving with guys on the back of them in protective outfits.
Don't know what chemicals they are spraying, but it's being done around shrubs, gardens and chipped areas, and have seen a number of people doing it in a number of areas

They were probably spraying herbicide. It's a fairly common practice.

Hi Jack,
Got your messages but had no credit for reply.
The "puffballs" are Chamonixia pachydermis, not edible or medicinal. "Edit: the new combination is Rossbeevera pachydermis (Zeller & C.W. Dodge) T. Lebel, named in honour of the late prominent New Zealand mycologist Ross Beever"
These are some of the only authentic P. makarorae images in existance, well done!

That's right,
These guys who are spraying are just spraying herbicides for weed control, they are not spraying fungicides, they will be using a dye which is usually blue so they know where they have already sprayed, I would not consume any fungi from these areas!!
