Ok, after getting some great advice from you guys I got my Growlab converted over for mushroom cultivation. Thank you for the help! You know who you are.
I've decided to start a log/journal here to help fine tune this beast and share what comes from it and tips and advice given so others may also benefit from this grow.
I call it my Mushroom Cave...my kids get a kick outa that name. lol
...Anyways, here we go. I hope that you can join me on this journey and we can all either learn something or share some great mycology knowledge here!
I have a Growlab GL80 growing tent that I haven't used in a while, and thought, hey, I bet this would make a great mushroom cave!
It's 2.5' x 2.5' x 6', has a 4" vent on the top, top back, bottom left, and bottom right. Also has 2 front viewing windows so I can stare in there without letting all of the accumulated humidity out. lol
Here is how I converted it:
I got a 12' cool white outdoor waterproof Ropelight.

Tied it up around the top of the cave and put the powercord out thru the unused top right vent.

I Purchased a Vicks coolmist humidifier, cut out a 4" hole thru the grates directly over the fan which my ducting snapped directly into. I ducted directly into the top vent in the cave.

I then added a $14 plastic shelf inside the cave. I was initially going to use PVC to build shelves custom fit for the cave, but this seemed like a better option for now....and for the money.

I rigged up a TiT Incubator for the bottom shelf for when it's colder than I'd like. I used different sized tubs in hopes that maybe some minor evaporation of the warmed water would help humidify the cave. I am currently using a 50w Aquarium heater to heat the TiT, but may have to move up a size next winter.

Here is what the Mushroom Cave looks like now.

Ok, here is what I have in spawn and culture at the moment. (keep in mind that I'm always looking to expand my edibles collection so if you'd like to trade, or donate please feel free to contact me.)
I have here 1200ml Pearl oyster LC, 300ml Reishi LC, 300ml Lions mane LC, 2 quart WBS Pearl Oyster spawn.

I also have various Spawnbags with different substrates and different mixes in the Incubator.

To be Continued...

I agree. Unfortunatly walrmart didn't have grated shelving for cheep, so I had to go with that shelf for a while. I will eventually either buy a stainless steel rack that's grated or be making my own custom rack from 1" PVC.
I did however angle the intake duct from the humidifier so that the incoming air bounces off the edge of the top shelf and dispurses a bit. I just hop that this helps some. The exhaust vent is on the bottom right so hopefully the Co2 is the first to go.
Thanx for stopping in John-hai! I hope to update here in a bit with humidity and temp info and questions.

I have the same plastic shelf. It collects water after a while so i drilled 1" holes in every shelf to allow water and air to move through it. Worked out well.

so here is a pic of my temp/RH guage about 5minutes after I turned on the humidifier. I think it said RH was about 33% and 73f just before I turned it on, but I forgot to take a pic.

Here is a pic of it after about 30min. The coolmist vicks also seems to cool the tent which is a good bonus for fruiting. It seems to stick around 77% and 67-65F, but I noticed that after I misted the interior of the cave I got the tent to jump to over 80% for a few hours.

I'm going to try angling the intake vent to the left side and see if it helps increase humidity a bit. Ideally I'd like to be able to set the humidifier on 15min on and off cycles, but if need be I can purchase a cycle timer or humidistat to keep RH as high as I can. I'd prefer to save money, so I'll try 15min intervals first, while I can before my spawn is ready for fruiting.
Another thing that i feared would happen did, I have to place a bowl (small tub in the future) directly under the intake to catch the dripping condensation from the humidifier. I'll have to get a 1gallon tub so that I only have to drain when I replenish the vicks reservoir. At least I can recycle the drain water back into the unit. lol

I'm seeing more and more hydroponic tents. What is everyone using these doing to keep water from the condensation off the bottom?

I don't know. I have been running my humidifier for about 3 days now, and it hasn't been an issue, but I'm ready to go in with a towel and mop up if needed. Any Ideas are welcome!
I think that it helps that the exhaust is so low to the floor, but not sure yet. I haven't seen any Hydro tents yet to compare too, so I'm just tweaking as I go.

I went with a greenhouse and I can tune it down to 98 percent but even then I still get some drippage that goes out by a drain pan.. Was wondering about those because I looked hard at those before going with a mini greenhouse because there was more info here and other places about using them.

thats what I would have went with aw well, had I not had the GL80 sitting around. Figured what the heck. lol we'll see. It does have a plastic coated "drainpan" of sorts covering the bottom designed for hydroponic spills, but it's set inside the tent, not outside or below like the cool rig you made. Hopefully it won't bee to bad and I'll be able to just soak up any condensation buildup every couple days.
Right now I'm trying to get her above 78-80%RH. It's pretty dry here in colorado during the winter, and even most of the summer, so this is going to be a trick. I may also have to add a repti-fogger to get it up more. I'm not sure yet tho. still working that out. I just hope I can do it fairly cost efficiently.

Why not wick the moisture away?
Put something like a fishnet stocking over your inlet pipe, then you can run the stocking down and into your bottom tub.
Ok maybe you'd need fishnet pantihose, cut the toe off one end.

Thank you for stopping in man. It's only been a few days, but so far so good. The only thing I can say for sure is that a 4x4 growlab would need quite a good humidifier, but would do great I'm sure. I'm digging the idea of hooking up the humidifier to the FAE. It helps a hell of alot here in dryville.

Good call NSF. Now that you got me thinking about it, hydroponic wick systems work just the same but in reverse. I bet a good nylon rope would work great and be cut to length. I may pick some up and try that. The only thing I'm wondering about is how much of the water actually makes it to the bottom tub. It seems like I'm getting close to 3/4gall per day in condensation runoff, so I'll have to watch the water level in the tub. Still tho, it should give me alot more time between draining the exess water.
Thanks for stopping in and the great idea!

Ok, so now I have a question. I made up 2 oak sawdust blocks in spawnbags. one for Lionsmane, and one for Reishi. I inoculated with vendor spore syringes that I know are good...as my LC's are growing strong, but I'm getting no mycelium growing on the blocks. they are being kept at 72f in a dark closet and it's been almost a week.
My question is whats going on? I'm new at these types of mushrooms, but think maybe the blocks are a touch too moist? They are not contaminated at all, so I'm a bit lost here.
Any ideas?
Yesterday I started 1qt WBS jars of each to colonize and transfer to the oak blocks, but I've heard that Lionsmane is slow on grains?

Getting the myc to jump directly from LC (sugar) to wood (lignocellulose) is a crapshoot and the odds are worse with myc that isn't actively growing. I've put a handfull of soaked WBS (starch) in the bottom of the bag and injected into that with success. But, even then the myc lags at the interface before jumping to wood. Also, concentrating the injection at a single point, rather than spreading it out, seems to help (I've read it's called the Island Effect). Try reinjection with your fresh LC.

Thanx Shu for posting this. I had no idea, but it does make complete sense. I will do as you recommend ASAP.
Thank you very much for the great tip there!
Maybe you or someone here has a prefered method of starting lionsmane spawn? what is fast that can be transfered to sawdust blocks efficiently? Currently trying to go LC to Rye and WBS to Sawdust, but if there is a faster way, then gravy!

UPDATE:
Ok, I have been able to keep the humidity in the cave stable at 76-80% with a few spikes up to the high 90's. I hope that being stable at 80% or just below is adequate for my cultivation. The coolmist also has a cooling effect in the cave and keeps the internal temp right at 66f. I'm sure it'll go up in the summer, but not too much.
I took Shu's advice and re-injected LC into my lions mane and reishi blocks, and I do see mycelium growing, but slowly. Thanx Shu! slow is always better than no!
Almost all of my Oyster spawn bags are fully covered in mycelium so I'm going to give them a few days to be sure that they are fully colonized thru and thru before I begin fruiting. It will be interesting for me to see the differences in fruiting between the various bags in there. I have 2 that are layered straw/cardboard, 3 that are Oak sawdust, and 1 that is coir/coffee grounds/WBS. So far the best looking is the coir/coffee. The mycelium just seems much stronger on that block. Much more rhizomorphic thick strands. second best seems to be the Oak sawdust blocks which are not far behind the coir/coffee as far as rhizomorphic, but just don't seem to be as thickly covered. The cardboard/straw has the thinnest covering of mycelium. You can see thru it to the cardboard and straw. Then again, those 2 are the biggest bags and did in fact colonize the fastest. I guess we'll see how they fruit. Thats what matters to me anyways.
I also have a bag of rye colonized with reishi that will be added to a sawdust block today or tomorrow. My WBS bag of Lions mane i thought was a dud, but now (a week and a half later) seems to be covered in tiny near invisible strands of mycelium, and the cracked seeds are white around the edges. It seems that maybe the Loins mane I have has very fine mycelium. I made 4 more qt grain jars yesterday. I will be injecting them with Reishi and Lions mane LC from my new batch. I hope that it's more active than the cultures I got from the vendor. We'll see.
I think thats about it for now.

Thanx for stopping in!
I have a Vicks Coolmist humidifier set on the top of the tent. I ran 4" duct into the top vent and set the vicks to run for 15min every 15min. So it humidifies and exchanges the air at the same time. The air leaves the tent on the bottom right vent so the Co2 falls to the floor while it's not venting and is hypothetically the first to get pushed out. The Vicks seems to be a little small for the tent I have as far as keeping the humidity rally high, but with a couple mistings a day the humidity seems to be pretty stable around 80%-86% or so now. Without misting it stays around 74%.
I just put a Pearl Oyster test block in to start fuiting this morning, so now the real fun begins and I'll be able to tweak on it a little more after seeing how this block fruits.
wish me luck! hahaha.

Ok, so I'm kinda bummed to do a search here on Pearl Oysters and find most of the threads abandoned before we can see how they went. Hell, half of them seem to bale after starting the threads and only seeing grainjars. Bummer.
...on a lighter note, I will be posting an update of my fruiting blocks in the cave tomorrow. For a first batch they are looking alot better than I expected! Stay tuned......
