Is this cobweb? help!
    #15950877 - 03/15/12 03:11 PM (1 year, 2 months ago)

I shot some jars up with EQ exactly 15 days ago. Wondering if this is cobweb or healthy mycelium. It's not furry like most pics of cobweb I have seen but it has tons of strands shooting every which way. It is also coming in rather fast. It didn't start showing signs of growth until about day 6 or 7. I also read that cobweb comes in very fast and can't spread from jar to jar. All of my jars look just like this. Please help! Sorry for the crap pics, all I have is my phone cam at the moment. Thanks for reading.

Looks like healthy myc to me bro. Myc grows pretty fast too, if its cobweb it will take over the jar in a couple of days, given what i can see(rhizomorphic mycelium)  and the fact that all jars are uniform, id say 95% sure its myc. But youll know soon.

Oh, another question slightly off topic. When would I want to birth these when they are so rhizo?all of the jars are roughly 80%? Should I still wait a week to consolidate?

Absolutely, never birth anything before its fully colonized and once you see the last bit of myc connect ( full coloniztaion) wait a week. I know its hard to wait that long, but if you birth them earlier they aren't going to fruit for a while and are likely to dry out while waiting. 6 days wouldnt kill you, but i'd give it a good 6-7 days for consolidation and to prepare to fruit. Also do you plan to dunk and roll?

Yeah man, absolutely, worst thing that could happen is u get a couple pins in the jars, which wont be hurt at all by dunking and rolling as long as your careful. The last one my friend had pin in the jar, he still waited for consolidation dunked and rolled carefully with about an inch long pin and that shroom grew up to be the biggest shroom he'd ever had. 39 grams fresh just as the veil broke.

Haha I bet! I have 18 cakes going now for studying of course. Pesh and Eqs. All 10 of the eqs look like the pics with the rhizo. Some are even better than that.

Yeah, using 2 48 qt. tubs. I am however thinking about using some of the cakes to try a casing or 2. I have yet to do one and just don't want to screw these up though. Also, the weather here is pretty messed up right now. It gets cold, then warm fast ( I'm right above TN.) Even on a warm day my incubation chamber was only hitting like 73 to 74F. So today I put a space heater near it to bump up the temp. Think that's an okay idea?

How low are the temps getting? 72-73 is great for pf jars as well as any reasonable ambient temp around there. 60's will start slowing growth, but itll still grow. Is this grow inside?

Dont crumble and case unless you are spawning to a bulk substrate. Its not adding any nutrients, just re-shaping the substrate, just dunk and roll the cakes or spawn them to bulk

Yea the grow is indoors and the temp flucuatesso much that thepesh speed up "but barely" and slow down tremendously. The eqs were innocd a couple days later and have flown past the pesh. I heard pesh is a fast colonizing strain but eager for higher temps. So just gonna keep it at a solid 80. They basically have stalled and the myc that is there is weak. I flipped them today as well. There only maybe 40% if that and nada on the bottoms. The eqs are like 80% and the bottoms are starting to go now. I suppose its all trial and error with this hobby. Wish my pesh luck tho lok

Ya, 80 should be ok, i would try to stay around 78 or so since the myc will heat itself some and always be a few degrees higher than the ambient temp, and since you flipped them, definitely dont flip them back over it will mess up ur dry verm contam barrier, just let them be and see if they continue to grow. Ill think youll be ok man, just leave them alone as much as possible, as long as your somewhere in the 70's u should b fine.

Yeah I have it hovering at between 78 to 80. After playing with my space heater and the surroundings/conditions of the room I have to a steady temp. I definitely leave them alone and only check them every few days. I have them in a see thru tub so I can see them without messing with them. I use Lysol Neutra Air and hand sanitizer religiously. I post some more pics later today of the Eq's progress just since my last pics and I'll throw some up of the PESH so you can tell me what you think. Thanks for all the tips bro! I have been reading the forums religiously for the past couple months. My wife says I'm addicted to the shroomery lol. I'm just one of those types that once I get to learning about something, I want to learn any and all aspects of that area. Aside from my band and work I didn't really have any hobbies and this one I'm digging!

I'm in a hard rock/metal band. We are sort of newly formed, left my last band a few months ago. I play every instrument there is pretty much but in the band I'm lead vocals and guitar. It's coming along nicely
