Panellus stipticus
Cultivated on sawdust with a LC from Sporeworks.
Photos were taken with a Canon 60D, 30 second exposure, 100mm macro lens, f2.8, iso 6400.
These pictures were taken while they were still in bags; the mushrooms are now in the fruiting chamber.

Beautiful and amazing!
Been wanting to see someone cultivate these...details of your methods? I see you have some specific conditions for the photos (which are awesome BTW), but is the glow noticeable with the naked eye? Ive been wanting to grow these myself.... Beyond the COOL factor, what are your plans to do with these?

Can you make the blocks glow? I'm also interested in your sub recipe, and technique. Thanks for sharing

Groovy! Why are you fruiting them in your bag? They will glow a little brighter if exposed to oxygen. Also, you can harvest the mushrooms, dry them out and they will start glowing again once rehydrated. This is a very cool strain. Not many people have a camera capable of capturing the glow. Great job!

They'll glow brightest at a pH of around 3 to 4.
I got some really nice fruits out of mine, but none of my digital cameras would capture the glowing image, even if I left the shutter open half the night. RR

How do you get the right pH?
And what are the fruiting temps?

I used citric acid to lower pH, and was fruiting at around 55F to 65F. I just wish I could have gotten pictures. RR

Blue Helix made the bags.

Yes, in complete darkness, after your eyes have had a minute to adjust.
I keep a bag next to my bed, and when I wake up in the middle of the night its really bright.

Beyond the COOL factor, what are your plans to do with these?
I am going to find a place that has lots of fresh woodchips and no light from streetlights, and have a night time glowing snowball fight with Panellus stipticus sawdust spawn. Come back the next year on a dark and cloudy night and photograph the glowing wood chips, then spread them around to fresh wood chips so the next year the whole forest is glowing.

Hacendado said: Can you make the blocks glow?
When your eyes are well adjusted to the dark, the whole block glows. The places where it is pinning glow about 5 times more brightly.

Southern_Mush said: Groovy! Why are you fruiting them in your bag?
The fruiting chamber needed to be rebuilt. I did that and took them out of the bags a couple days ago.

I will take some more pics with them in the darkroom.

Cool!!!!!!

I will get some even better pictures now that the plastic isn't in the way.

Those last pics are awesome! I love how those turn out. Get to see the whole fruit and the eerie glow.
I took some photos of my fruits like that. They turned out pretty awesome.
Trich eventually started to set in on the older fruits so it had to go.
Pan. Stip. snowball fight had me cracking up BTW. That would be a pretty gnarly radioactive snowball fight!

Do you recon mixing up some uranium into my substrate will have the same effect?
Just kidding but I hope to do a Panellus stipticus grow eventually, it'd make a nice night light.
