Why not?  It is the voters that vote against the other guy, rather than voting for somebody to represent their best interests, that has landed "us" in the mess where we have nobody decent to vote for.  Look at the number of people that voted for Obama last election simply because he was not Bush as a classic example.

Come on, Seuss... have you not had your morning coffee yet? You're usually more on the ball than this.

Once again - you cannot criticize someone for not making a choice that is not there to make. How is it in any way the fault of caucus goers and primary voters that Rubio, Ryan, Daniels, Pawlenty, Jindal, and several others who might make better standard-bearers for the Republican party have chosen not to run? Even if every single caucus attendee and primary voter to date had been a card-carrying MENSA member, we still wouldn't be looking at, say, Mitch Daniels as the Republican nominee.

I have no great admiration for the intelligence of the average American voter, but I'm not going to vilify them for not making choices that aren't available to them. You can blame the dearth of great candidates on many factors, but the dimness of the average American voter isn't one of those factors.

In response to saint, what happens if Ron Paul runs as an independent? Could he gather enough support to strip the majority from either party? What happens then?

This his been a major bone of contention because if Ron Paul does run 3rd party, Obama will win. That's pretty much accepted as a foregone conclusion. Ron Paul doesn't have a huge base, but they're diehard, and aren't known for party loyalty(I'm one of them). It's argued that a large number of them are independent. But more of them are from the GOP. His son Rand Paul is a Senator now though, so I seriously doubt he'll run 3rd party and risk his son's political career.

Also, is the any chance he could clinch the nomination, I am speaking only in terms of what is possible not what is likely.

Didnt he come out on top in the polls in CA? I know there are a lot of delegates there, is the any truth in saying he could possibly take a few large states and, given that the  allocated delegates so far are spread fairly well over the other 3 candidates.. does that mean anything or am I way off the mark?

One could make an extremely strong case that the dearth of quality candidates is precisely due to the self anointed geniuses who act as personal assassins in the media.  For instance, myself.  I am way too fucking smart to stick my head up into the chopping block of the character assassin opt outs who would be sieving my trash for anything they could use against me.  An army of small men can and have destroyed those who would dare.

It's a two-way street, no? Or is this an argument for a liberal media bias?

I'm not even making a liberal bias argument.  This time.  It is just that no real human being would ever be willing to submit themselves to the colonoscopy to come.  I don't even blame the media.
