Cant decide what to major in or why. Really just looking to expand my horizons.
Anyone got any good ideas for a major and why?
I mean, what are good degrees and jobs they qualify for?
Interests include:
Music Philosophy Sciences Computer IT/ Graphics History Theology Cosmology
I dunno, guess im all over the place.
Ideas? Or should i just go to accumulate knowledge in all of the subjects?

History, Philosophy and Theology are all very awesome subjects, but if you're going to put money down on something like college classes, I'd recommend going for something else. All those three subjects can be very much self taught with a very low investment.
Do you have any college courses out of the way yet? If not, you should just go to school for two years and get an associates and then decide on something after wards when you are a little more rounded.

Go to community college and take a variety of classes. You dont need to pin down your major yet.

This... I agree, philosophy and theology have both greatly peaked my interest in the last 2 years.
What kind of work would i come by with this type of schooling.

Yea this is the best advice here too. I know people who were hell bent on majoring in a certain subject freshman year, then after a year of classes they wasted their time and money on classes that wouldnt contribute to their new major. Take your time.

Do you want to be inside or outside?
At a computer or building something/working with your hands?
Taking a variety of classes at a community college before jumping into a 4-year. Save tons of money.
I decided my major and aspirations for employment through thinking about what my ideal job would be.
I wanted to be doing (what I think is) meaningful work, working outside and a good amount of physical activity but also something that requires intelligence.
This led to me to a B.S. in Biology with a focus in environmental science/ecology.
I work in pesticide regulation, examining their prevalence in public water systems. Not my ideal job but I'm using it as a stepping stone.
Just my two pennies. Good luck.

2nd this. If you aren't sure about the path you want to take, I think it'd be a mistake to waste a bunch of money on education. Take classes you can get excited about, try not to get frustrated when everyone else, teachers included, only seem to be concerned with mental masturbation and jumping through hoops.

Yes i agree, i was let down by the computer thing years ago, spent time focused on one thing and found no joy in it by the end of my studies.
Perhaps i will lurk at the nearby community college. Its cheap enough to take my time.

Note that you only need to take two classes per semester at a community college to be counted as half time. Thats a great thing to do for non-traditional students. Its also how I started.

I could definitely swing that.
Prices for tuition are reasonable here.

Take classes that you are really interested in, this is where you will do well.
Going back to school is awesome, and if your over 24 its very easy (the point where your income is separate from your parents). You can get all sorts of cash, and live comfortably.
I took about 10 years to get my BA, it was awesome! I have over 250 really good credits. I have about 6 minors in science.
I do have some large student loans now, but its like $200 a month total so really not that bad, considering I got to party and learn for ten years. I would still be there except your credits start expiring after ten years and I was kind of sick of being poor.
I would skip the community college and go right to University. There will be a lot more going on and You'll be less tempted to try to hold down a serious job instead of concentrating on your studies and networking with your fellow students. Community college isn't bad its just limiting and your not getting away. When your at a cc you can't "skip" ahead and take those upper level classes that are really cool. At my university I was able to take lots of grad classes even as an undergrad.
A lot of majors will make you take all kinds of stuff in the beginning anyway so go with one that sounds the most interesting. Don't be afraid to only take 12 credits at a time. You can determine what you wanna be in the last two years.
Freshmen classes suck. If the Faculty treated you like a normal respectable person in the beginning then there wouldn't be so many college drop outs. Once your up in the 300's it's awesome. So hang in there. Grad classes are the best. Higher level classes really aren't that hard.
It's very important to get a dialog going with your Profs. Send them some e-mails and go in and review some tests with them. Its quick and for 30 minutes of time you'll get a letter grade higher. I would skip a class or two just to go in and go over the notes from what I missed.
Oh and don't be afraid to have a kid or two while your there, lol. You get more funding, and forgiveness.
"Oh man my kid to the doctors for diarrhea."
Sounds much better than "Oh man I had rush my dog to the vet cause he ate the batteries out of the remote."
Haha, I miss college a little now.
EDIT: Oh and one last thing about Community College. It does kinda suck. Your there stuck taking prerequisites so once you find that one cool subject you have like 4 to 6 class choices instead of 20. Your stuck close so your probably going to live at home and it'll feel a lot like highschool.

^ I made this mistake. Started college in January finally (I'm 26) and I'm already over it. The classes I chose are so fucking uninteresting I'm really having trouble giving a fuck after only a few months.

I would recommend this for sure. I jumped right into full time and it sucks. Only 2 of my current classes will count towards the computer program I want to start in the fall so it's that much harder to give a fuck about the other two classes. Now it's too late to drop them without it effecting my gpa and I'd be put on academic probation and probably fuck up my chances of getting into the real classes next semester.
I wish I had known all this before I started. Sorry for the negativity, hopefully you can learn a little from my mistakes though.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus.
All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the
octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns.
Also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?
