Agreed. Its football. It happens. Probably a lot. Unfortunately for the saints, they were the first to get caught. With Goodel and the media totally blowing this out of proportion I think GW is going to get a few game suspension (good for that piece of shit), and the Saints are probably going to lose at least one draft pick.
About the image thing, I for one am glad there will be something other than Katrina to talk about.

No. It doesn't "just happen". There's many former players saying that there was never such "bounty" policies on the teams they played on.
It was a shitty disgraceful policy that the Saints had implemented for 3 seasons. And the most annoying part about this is that it's probably going to lead to even more lockdown on physicality in the NFL.
Piece of shit Sean Payton also knew about the bounties and never told anyone about it.

1. every single team has some form of this. remember, it is also illegal to make such money pools for anything else like blocking kicks, getting sacks etc.
2. this has been going on for 20 years all over the league. . im not saying every single team does it with money, but every single team does it, and most of them do it with money. the saints got caught, and they are going to be made an example of, but it isnt going to do shit.
3. as long as a hit is legal, i dont see the problem? shouldnt a defensive player be trying to hit the ball carrier as hard as he can anyway? what is the difference between players putting up pools of money for other players for certain things, and getting those bonuses in your contract? seems like the same, if not less, of an incentive than the latter.
4. the saints did go too far with it, which is why they got busted doing it, but it was mostly perpetrated by gregg williams, who has been dealt with and is no longer with the saints. I think fines are justifiable, and even suspensions for players involved, but taking draft picks away? that is ridiculous.
5. I have been trying to find anything that has stats or even unabridged notation of player vs player, and independent injuries (such as training time) for each team, but it is damn near impossible. those statistics i believe could help the saints case out, especially if it showed (what i believe) is that they wouldnt even be in the top 10 most injury causing teams in the last 5 years.
6. you will never be able to stop it. it will continue as it always has. we are talking about 23 year old kids with millions of dollars. what pisses me off is that they are trying to quantize intent to cause injury while playing within the rules of contact. If some LB knocks the shit out of a QB, in a completely legal manner, and the QB is injured, does it matter if his teammate gave him 10k after the game?
7. what if money wasnt involved? what if gregg williams said "first guy to knock _________ out of the game doesnt have to come to next practice"? is that just as bad? worse? less? what is to stop coaches and or teammates from incentivizing each other to play harder?
8. and to any whining shitstains of viking fans out there, you threw 6 INT's. seems to me we did you a favor by getting rid of favre.
outside of the threat of losing draft picks, my biggest problem with this is the PR aspect that is undoubtedly going to effect Referee's judgement for a few seasons to come. just watch, any hit made by the saints is going to be flagged. it is going to be ridiculous. and any illegal hits against the saints are going to be mostly allowed.
