I went with a rough guideline 20w per square foot for germination, and 30w per square foot for growing on. Actually I ended up with 160w for 5 square foot, and shade my seedling pots with a sheet of paper. I run my bulb ~10 inches away. This will vary depending on your reflectivity, so adjust your light according to what the seedlings tell you. Move it closer if they are pale and stretching for light (etiolation), and further away if they are red and stunting.
