found my first of the year today!!
sorry the pics are so shitty. here are a few pics of the tiny babies i found today.
found four in all but they were to small to pick so i left them to grow a little bit.
the other patches in the area were not fruiting yet that i could see, but since they are so small right now i didnt check thoroughly in fear of trampling little ones i could not see.
good luck to all and i should have some better pics coming soon!

How long would you leave them to grow?
Been months since I have had morels I can't stand it .....
Also did anyone notice the little one hiding in the bottom right corner of the last pic?

anyone wanna talk about the species? I see it has a buttressed stem, but they look a little on the small side for morchella crassipes?

Knowing the species would be awesome. What info do you need to help with ID?
I have a few pics of some larger ones from last year if they will help.

Very nice pictures. How do you prepare your morels for eating and what do you eat them with?

I like to dip them in a milk/egg wash, coat with finely crushed saltine crackers, fry in butter and eat them!
Or stuffing the large ones with cream cheese and crab mix then batter and fry or bake in oven.

These are growing around a poplar tree, they also seem to like sycamore and another type of tree I have not identified yet.

In the south east they like tulip poplar, ash, sycamore, elm, cottonwood, apple trees, and sometimes sweet gum.
