Thats happened a couple of time now.
A couple of weeks time it should be looking quite colourful.
In regards to the Snail/slug bait Blitzem The active constituent is metaldehyde. An organic compound. The safety advice here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaldehyde Is a little concern good enough not to pick them. All I can do is let the bait do it course and hopefully it will eventually flush away. In future use crushed Egg Shells.

Another new potential sub area I found about a month ago has started to pump out subs! Found about 150 mature specimens and there are literally hundreds of tiny pins breaking the surface. I haven't had a chance to explore this area too well so who knows how many more are further down the hillside. They weren't growing in clusters but rather dominated the entire hillside.
Habitat shots have been uploaded on Nox's thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16208937
A few pics of the subs

Can you find all 5 in this picture?

I've only found it once,on one of my very first hunts. Such an awesome mushroom, it's still pretty close to my favorite find.

Awesome guys and cheers for the ID. Kind of a strange discovery. You see I fell into a 6ft deep patch of blackberries trying to cross an overgrown valley via a fallen tree which broke as I reached the middle . I found these growing under the black berries as I was digging a tunnel out. Was worth the cactus butt I'm now suffering from

I got a little too intoxicated on an easter camping trip, got one fully wrapped around my leg that tightened as I tried to pull out of it, leg is just healing up fully now.

Check the plantations that have been growing for +10yr and still has the trees there (prelogging) not the ones you pictured. For better chances and result.
heh, that tells him my exact spot. I have a feeling its going to get absolutely raped this year, not to worry though. I believe the spot is the most fruitful in the state.
I love the look of subbies, they are just so pretty . can't wait till my first pick, but thanks to uni i feel it wont be until after my exams

Nice finds ericos_bob
I found this the other day. I'm not even sure if it's a fungus but it did look pretty cool

Also had a random question - When picking mushrooms, should they be pulled up from the ground including the mycellium, or cut the stem so the mycellium can flush again? Should the immature pins be left until they mature?
Cheers guys

They are great pics e.bob. There is definitely some connection with regards to pine plantation and bell tops subs here in sa. How and why ?? It could be a shelter factor and or the rich acidic pine soil. How that resembles the mushroom to bell top? Who knows.
Elendew You have answered your own questions Yes cut or pinch The base of stem and yes leave all babies up until the veil brakes under cap. That's the process when mushrooms release thousands of spores everywhere and for miles. Will only grow in the right environment and climate.

yes you should ALWAYS cut them at the base and NEVER pick pins, ripping up or disturbing the mycelium will kill the patch off

I found this guy particularly juicy! Didn't get many pictures that day though.

There's another and a pin in the back, and (I think) one of these

Still haven't ID'd this one yet though :/ I've seen quite a few of them too! Any ideas guys?

Apologies if this isn't the right spot to ask or it is rude of me to ask (i'm a newbie noob) but flicking through some old articles from a enthusiasts group of mushroom observers (not looking for actives in particular) they mentioned that they'd found an abundance of fungi on Kangaroo Island. Has anyone ever had any experience over there? I'm curious because thinking of my visits there the Mallee bush scrub could be a prime spot and in the colder months it does have quite heavy rainfall.

Cheers Umma, I've never found the bell topped subs before this lot and they did strike me as particularly odd. If I hadn't seen the pictures of bell shaped subs in past seasons threads I'd probably have thought they were a different psilocybe altogether. Have also been curious as to what the explanation to the enormous variance in sub shape and size but as you say the substrate and habitat appear to play a role here.

Funny you should mention kangaroo island as I've wanted to go on a hunt there for a while now. I wish I still had the link to an article I read about a similar study done in mallee scrub of inland south australia. Among the many species of fungi they discovered was Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. They were found growing in sandy desert environments with no vegetation other than low lying shrubs. A far cry from the lush green forests we often associate them with.
