Does anyone know of any buses that will take me from the city to somewhere appropriate to hunt?

Got a bike and or feet that work?? Check out some google earth maps for likely spots. Check bus/trains routes that go around that area and foot the rest.

I wasn't expecting a bus that drives into a forest, I can only see buses that go into say Mount Barker city, and it'd be a massive walk to say Mt. Crawford forest.

well i can save you some time by saying you would be far better off waiting 3 weeks or so, as you can seetheres barely any Sub finds ATM

Thanks for the tip, I just don't want to miss out on the beginning of the season because I've got no way of getting far enough into the hills, this will be my first season of hunting

like what NOX said, try google maps first and then try looking for a nearby bus route. those of us who manage to find Subs this time of year are more experienced hunters who already have patches/spots to check. happy hunting

Listen to GoftheG there are few around at the moment. Last year was my first year of hunting properly and it took me 3 or 4 hunts before I found gold and I had done heaps of research. Non of my patches are doing anything yet so your chances of finding something are really low. When people are starting to find 50-100 in one hunt, that's the time to saddle up.

Easy on the specifics and although I agree a few weeks would be much more promising putting in an effort now does not necessarily amount to time wasted.
I am confident I have found at least a couple of patches and one definite new patch (see my pics on the previous page) by going on hunts the last few months. I figure this will give me a head start when I revisit these spots once the season kicks off.
Google earth as NOX suggested and also check out NOX's habitat thread so you can identify good areas. When you find an area that looks right check for indicator species. Lots of different fungi in one area is a good sign and better yet early fruiting species that prefer similar conditions to subs like leratiomyces ceres is what you should look for. Note down all suitable spots and revisit in a few weeks to give you a head start once the season kicks into gear . You may even strike lucky in the process

Grat advice, thread can be found here. I have found millions of L.Ceres so hoping in a month there will be subs after some rain. Fingers crossed

Hi Everyone,
First time poster, long time interest in psychometric substances,. Went to The Valley about three weeks ago, in Adelaide, just to test the waters.
Had a beautiful time, my friend did some painting, and this is what we saw,

Gymnopilus sp.?
Check the plantations that have been growing for +10yr and still has the trees there (prelogging) not the ones you pictured. For better chances and result.

How often would are Subs found in the same environment as L.Ceres? I know they grow in the same sort of conditions and environment. I've seen loads of L.Cares in certain areas but never managed to find subs amongst them

ok, to put it simple the two species are not conjoined twins L.Ceres prefer the same sort of substrate as Subs and are a good indicator as to weather or not your looking in the right areas, you do not always find the two together

From my neighbours garden. Im not to sure what to think in regards to snail pellets scattered around active garden beds? I would'nt think they'll be to much of an issue.
