Missing Brandy for Beef Bourguingnon

I've cooked this once before and it turned out beautifully (recipe of choice is from The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook). But that was with a complete accompaniment of ingredients, I am missing the brandy!
Cooking with brandy/alcohol is not my forte, so I don't know what flavor I'm going to be missing (1/4 cup brandy for 3lbs of beef). I do have a bottle of Jamison Whiskey, but I'd bet my savings that it'd turn out a little "Funny."
Can anyone knowledgeable help me out?

The Jameson will work fine. I add red wine to mine too.

Have you interchanged the two before? Forgive my skepticism, I'm just wondering if I should change recipes instead.

Its not going to be a significant change in flavor. Some Boef Bourginon recipes don't even call for brandy/ cognac.

I think that's what I'm going to end up doing. I found another resource that said bourbon/whiskey can be used for brandy. But since you both mentioned it I think I'm going to forgo the whiskey altogether.
I hoping it'll go something like this: People, "Hey man, what's in the pot?" Me, "Just some fancy boef." People, "Fuck this is delicious."

We'll see how it all turns out.

Update: I did cook without the brandy and yielded a great dish, certainty wowed my fellow diners. However, having had the dish with brandy there was a depth of flavor that was missing.
