Ever been to sleep and didnt dream, just kind of fell asleep and woke up? That weird period of "nothingness" is what happens when you die. you wont know it, you wont regret anything. you are dead. No more thought, no jesus, nothing.
thats my opinion. never had a near death experience though, i'm sure that would totally rock my world and alter my view.

I had a NDE about 4yrs ago from being sliced up during a brawl. It wasn't until I hit the floor of the hospital, unable to move from blood loss that I started tripping.
To make a long story short, I saw two girls who were involved in the whole thing turn into Valkyries, complete with psychedelic armor that rivaled any dose of DMT I have ever done. I grew up conservative Xian but had abandoned those beliefs many years prior. I've always been fascinated by norse mythology, so to me the whole thing was a testament to the fact that NDEs are a projection of what we want to believe, that our brains manifest to help us fade out of this existence in a peaceful manner, unlike being killed with a knife.
Shortly thereafter I became an atheist. I believe that when we die our brains shut off and our consciousness is lost forever. I'd like to believe in collective consciousness after a particular ego death experience, but I have no reason to suspect that it's real. I think we seriously underestimate the power of our beautiful yet flawed monkey minds.

I can tell you one time i got in a car wreck and knocked unconscious
Things went quiet and dark grey.
But when they were pulling me onto the stretcher i regained consciousness and immediately thought i died, or was born... I couldn't tell. When they were dragging my body onto the cold board, and my shirt was ripped off, i thought this was either the after life, or doctors pulling me out of a vagina.
True story the last thing i thought was, oh shit i got in a car wreck.
And i always wondered if there is a big difference in death if you get your head exploded versus if you die a slower more natural death, especially considering DMT might have something to do with it.
Also what is dieing like, versus being dead? For awhile

I'm scared of death. I agree with everyone else, you just disappear. But that just makes me think "How valuable is life?" Like there's a billion people who have passed, with a billion thoughts and memories and feelings that are all gone and we don't even remember them. That scares me, not even being remembered anymore.

I have class with this old couple, both of them have died before and have been revived. I've heard them talk about their after life experience. It's some interesting stuff.

I think as your in the process of dying you see yourself outside of your body, you have a life review/flashback of your life and you can reflect on your life and how you affected others. then you see a light and once you go into the light you are filled with an unbelievable amount of love and peacefulness. after that, I have no idea

If by "you", you mean the present sequence of memories being accessed by the processing unit that exists within my brain, well, I will cease to exist inasmuch as your computer's active memory ceases to exist when it is turned off. If by "you", you mean the physical components that make up my body, well, they will be long gone into other parts of the universe by the time "I" am dead.

I had some insane experiences on Salvia and/or DMT. I'd rather not talk about them though. I'd sound like a lunatic.

The science / rational side of me thinks that when we die we just come to an end. Like others have said already it would just be like being in an undreaming sleep: you know nothing, you feel nothing. Your body decomposes, you no longer exist and there is no part of you left that can be aware of your non-existence.
But a more artistic side of me that is more open to mystery wants to think maybe when we die, something happens to that part of us we call our consciousness. Maybe dying is a transformation, kind of like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Our body comes to an end but our mind / consciousness transforms into something that exists in a way we are unable to comprehend in our human physical form.
Either way i dont think it has anything to do with heaven, hell, nirvana or 'God' blah blah.

I agree with you there bro. I mean, as far as I can tell, my brain holds the key to my consciousness. But scientists aren't totally sure what consciousness actually is though.
But the hippy side of me says it's impossible for consciousness to cease to exist. And that you enter an entirely different dimension inhabited by spirit beings like those you encounter on Salvia and DMT.

Based on dmt-induced ego death, I don't feel as though it really matters... I mean, if you've no recollection that you exist, in the last few moments before you pass, there's really nothing to miss or regret.
I hope that death is the same as an ego-loss trip. Ultimate peace

That's definitely what scares me the most, not being remembered... you die, and then you are forgotten forever. Even the greats, the most famous, people we read about in history books from over 1000 years ago will someday be forgotten.
Someday, all religion, even the idea of Jesus will cease to exist.

This old guy I have class with told me about the time he died, he snapped his neck going down a waterslide and lost consciousness in a pool at a friends house like 30 years ago. He went to the bottom of the pool and just laid there. Six months before this happened, his wife had drowned in the ocean, he almost died trying to bring her back to the surface. He was torn up on the inside about losing his wife, he couldn't save her. So he's at the bottom of the pool and just gives up hope of resurfacing. He then sees himself lying at the bottom, and starts ascending. He said he went up through space and time to find himself in between realms, and he saw his wife. She told him he had to let her go, his guilt and sadness of not being able to save her was keeping her from being at peace. He told her he was so sorry he couldn't bring her back to the surface in time, and was so happy to see her again. She said to him again, he had to let her go, he did all he could for her, and for that she was grateful. When he heard that he was finally able to forgive himself. Then he said his grandfather came before him and told him that he was going to be alright, and wanted to give his son a message. His grandfather told him "tell your dad...not to take life so seriously"
Then all of a sudden my friend was back, and in an ambulance on the way to the hospital with a crazy story to tell.
First time I saw this old guy I just thought he was some boring old lame dude then he tells me this trippy ass story, and I was so wrong about him.

Exactly. Science has not yet really explained what consciousness is or why / how it arises. There is plenty of mystery in the world that science has yet to explain (thats not to say science wont explain these mysteries in the future).
So its like... to say that when we die we just come to an end is basically a reductionist way of looking at death, its just saying we are nothing more than the sum of our parts. So when we die the basic elements we are composed of (water, carbon etc) just dissassemble and go back into the 'universal mix' for re-use.
But that way of looking at it over-looks the fact that we are more than the sum of our parts. Consciousness is a product of of the sum of our parts being brought together in the unique configeration which makes a human.
So when we die... thats it? Consciousness just snuffs out? It can no longer be supported by the collection of chemical reactions and molecules that made it possible to exist in the first place so it just ceases to exist?
Or does consciousness endure in some way we cannot perceive?

I believe that when we die, some part of our consciousness lives on. That's all I claim to believe, as far as a place you go or judgement or any of that stuff, IDK.
Pretty much what it boils down to with me is, I don't know what happens when you die because I've never died before.
