Pulling Wisdom Teeth
    #15793097 - 02/11/12 01:58 PM (3 months, 15 days ago)

I have never had any complications whatsoever with my teeth (no braces, cavities, etc.), but I am getting pressure from my mom and my dentist to get my wisdom teeth pulled, mostly as a safety precaution for the future.

Is this really necessary?  I definitely don't want anything bad to happen to my teeth, but shit, it seems like yanking them out for no reason is just a bad idea and a waste of money.

I would do it. Keeping your wisdom teeth in could crowd your teeth and make them crooked in the future. Not to mention they'll probably eventually start getting sore.

Yeah crowding is an issue.  Even though it may not seem like they're crowded or causing any problems it could be something really minute that ends up causing you to not chew your food properly or some shit.  They're also harder to clean and get more problems because of that.

Just do it.  They'll put you to sleep and give you opiates

wait ok so then why the fuck do we have wisdom teeth. just as a source of revenue as doctors can invent reasons to tear them out?

makes me wonder why i really got mine taken out. they weren't even coming through yet or anything. i'm pretty damn sure that the guy doing the operation actually knocked one tooth in the bottom front of my mouth out of place as i had braces before that and it shoulda been fine

anyways OP i would strongly suggest you look more into the issue. i have been curious about this for awhile

don't EVER get your tonsils removed they are important. hopefully u can bevade  that. they can grow back tho. bad dietary habits are the only reason they get infected and swollen in the first place

There's a good number of people who don't have wisdom teeth, which is pretty much evolution in action   Feel free to make any "I'm more highly evolved than you" jokes if you were born without any wisdom teeth.

The reason we have them has to do with the diets and lifestyles of early humans and the creatures we evolved from.  They had larger jaws and needed the extra teeth to properly chew all that raw, uncooked vegetation and meat.  Over thousands of years our diet has become better and significantly less formidable so our mouths have been getting smaller.  Small enough to not be able to accommodate wisdom teeth.  Normally natural selection would filter out the less fit trait (eg - people with wisdom teeth get overcrowding in the mouth, can't chew properly and eventually get phased out of existence because of dietary/digestion issues), but we don't really like natural selection to take it's course with our species

Word on the tonsils. I had a bad infection a few months ago and someone recommended I remove them. My instinct just told me no.

I'm getting mine out! Can't wait! Next month baby!

Putting me to sleep. Ripping them out. Then giving me a script for Percocet.

Fuck yes.

I'll just suck up the pain, and pop the percs at a later date.

:snoop:
