    #15808576 - 02/14/12 02:03 PM (3 months, 12 days ago)

I'm trying to find good prices on bins once I'm ready to spawn. I need 9 and the size I need is about 24x14x11. Can anyone help me??

I've been doing this but price is the issue that I'm having. And some places are just asking way to much money for some of them.

you don't have too many other options if you want to use tubs.
maybe you could do a humidity tent and shelves.
should be able to construct one from salvaged materials.

how much do you consider to much? cause ive seen tubs range from 5-20 and thats not really that much in the scheme of things since they are reusable.  If price is that big a deal get one of the solid color ones they are the cheapest and cut the lid and tape some sarahn wrap to the top or hell just leave the lid solid it wont get light but it sure will get you through this stage

I got a bunch of my nice tubs from the thrift shop.  Cheapest your gonna find.  Remember that driving all around looking for a good deal costs gas money/time.

^ YUP! thrift shops where they sell used goods are a good start. Storage units (the huge rows of locked gates) Ask the owner if they have any extras laying around that you could barter with him/her for. These places see thousands of bins per year, a lot of them get discarded.
Try craigslist/kijiji. Not so good for MY area, but things may change and everywhere is different, you may find someone on craigslist looking to sell 40 storage totes $2 each. (this is what I am waiting for)
They are SOOOO easy to find use in the spring/summer time. When people have no use for them anymore, they don't throw them out... they cost JUST enough to prevent that, so they get stock piled.
Call a local moving company, they MAY be able to help (those people have mad resources)

You are getting close to the time when dollar stores and places like K-mart/home hardware will put those tubs on sale because of "spring cleaning" ... Something to consider!

I've seen the bins that are priced good but they look a tad bit too tall. I didn't want to buy them and have to cut holes in the side 'cause I'm not very familiar with this method and don't want to take the risk on contaminants. But i have seen people do it.

unless your going for dub tubs and I'm pretty shure you aren't you'll likely end up putting holes in it anyway and if you don't you'll hear about it as soon as you post a pic.
why such a strict dimension?
11" is kinda low after you put in 4-5" of sub depending on the species that may not be sufficient.

The last time I did this was in 03'. I remember using trays that were only about maybe 6 in high. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is can I get a bin thats way deeper then what I really need. If I do I could just fill the tub up about half way and that would be good?? I hope that kinda give a better idea on what it is that I'm trying for.

51 quart latch top sterilite ones from walmart. manageable size, good seal on the top and my personal favorite.

if you are very specific about those dimensions though you might need to do some searching at the store yourself.

Okay, so I decided to go with the Rubbermaid bins. I got a good deal. found 8 @ 7 dollars per bin. They're 24x16x9, they're a little short but the shelf's  that they will be going on don't have much space between them. Plus if I went with the taller ones, they would of been a pain to check. I will post pics in a few days to show what I'm talking about. Next time around, I will be able to get better prepared. But this works:cool:
