The real question to ask would be; does it actually sound better? Do you actually play better?

From my tapes?  Yes.  I've gone back to learn songs that I recorded first while shroomed, nothing like (ahem) learning from the best.

But true, you need a sober spectator.  Fortunately my SO is one of those, and a fellow musician, and has commented favorably on my playing while shroomed.

And again, this isn't while peaking, this is later on in the trip when focus returns.

Most definitely after the threshold has been reached.

On shrooms I feel more need for attention, unfortunately even when I am alone...which is why I don't play much alone now, possibly because they are the only Psyche I've been accustomed to lately.

It's been years a part and a few each time. Possibly a good thing because the experiences have always been overwhelming and life changing with those lucky times with lucy.

Acid has made me feel like I am on top of everything, even while I'm peaking. I've never been able to abuse it like shrooms (not more than two hits at a time, and only two times, with only 6 single hit trips during the past six years) because it's so scarce for my lifestyle, being a factory worker for six years sadly and  unfortunately right after high school.

So hard to meet chicks, and people like me. I know school will change everything. I also have this strong feeling that starting a band with the right people will be just as beneficial, no cancel that, way more rewarding to the grid.  All because of my acid trips.

Shrooms make me more foreign and emotionally enthralled  by people that are in my life that have influenced. Possibly because I've done them so many times, or possibly because that's just what they are. And I've respected them for that fact because I've only done them alone in the past two years.  Well except for the recent tool concert I was so blessed to experience, alone on shrooms...uh so maybe that still counts.

Sorry to get off topic. I almost decided to start a novel. My two sense about the whole topic with you fellow mushed musicians is that shrooms make you second guess when creativity is involved where as acid just makes you do it and do it.

Shrooms aren't as advanced as LSD in my opinion, but it's definitely more strange at times.

Ah man I'm definately a beast when I'm on acid playing guitar. I can do it on shrooms to though but there is something magical about LSD and the electric guitar for me. It's like I can improvise the most awesome shit from out of nowhere like it comes from somewhere else. I'm always better on LSD. On shrooms I wouldn't say I'm better but they don't really make me suck.

I actually prefer playing guitar on shrooms to LSD.

It's like a sort of style develops out of the tripping mindset and I have a wider range to play around with things while staying within the style with shrooms than I do with LSD. Like LSD makes me easily distracted and I find myself wanting to jump all over the place before I get too deep into anything. But the deeper I go into playing within a certain style the more intricate the riffs and the melody become.

Also I've played drums for about six years. Really interesting and foreign rhythms come easily while tripping until I start thinking about what I'm doing, and that trips me up and I lose it. I prefer shrooms for drumming too. Djembes and tablas ftw.

I thoroughly enjoy playing my Saxophones whilst tripping =)

The flow of the improvisational process in jazz music requires musicians to practice to a point of such musical knowledge, that when you are around 2-3 other jazz musicians (Or any musician for that matter) your instrument becomes an extension of your consciousness and  a dialogue begins that is completely new and exciting.

The state of mind required for this is a perceptive one, and psychedelics amplify this state imo

I played guitar on shrooms once. It was incredible to look up the neck while I was playing but I couldn't play for shit while I was tripping. I also broke the B string that day.

Play guitar and clarinet pretty well. Guitar is definitely a joy to play while tripping on anything for me, though I never try to do anything fancy. Usually just mellow, slow stuff but man it hits the spot when you're bubbling around the noodle. Well, actually, maybe not 2C-I. Now that I think about it, it's usually felt a little odd whenever I've tried on that. The clarinet is no bene on anything, hahaha. Better left to sobriety.

What I really enjoy though is getting down on some electric drone synth stuff, though. That's where it's at for me when I really wanna jam while tripping. Plus I got enough of that stuff to get everyone that's there to get in on it, too. :awesomenod:

Have no acid experience but gotta disagree... "Second guess"?  Don't know what that means.  I just do it, straight or shroomed.  Maybe it's experience, I trip a lot on shrooms, and started playing electric guitar years ago, with a whole lot of my practical knowledge being gained while tripping.  And then accessed any old time.  A lot of it is muscle and nervous system memory - you train your spine to coordinate what you need to do, and then your brain thinks "play this" and you do.  Ambidexterity probably helps as well - I'm not naturally but have gained a huge amount over the years.

Another aspect to this thread and what you're saying as well - I play in a performing Renaissance group and quite often I'm at rehearsals shroomed (in the comedown phase).  It can really make a difference on the plus side I've found.  But then I'm extroverted to a fault, so go figure.  Whatever happens I pretty much roll with it.

Also, I trip alone, for almost fucking ever, and it aids the full spectrum of my creative activities, including serious fiction writing (have quite a few novels complete in narration).

Trip you well.

I don't play a musical instrument but I'm a rapper and I like to freestyle a lot as in just pure and simple make it up on the spot and on shrooms I can freestyle quite well but sometimes it can be difficult but either way it is very fun

Ohh, that makes sense  whenever I'm coming down, all my reflexes seem better, and mind is more thoughtful etc. Makes for some great playing tbs.

Depends what kind of music I'm playing.  I can't play any sweeps/taps/technical stuff AT ALL when I'm tripping, but when I play my acoustic (especially when tuned in DADGBD) I can play my heart out.  I've come up with some interesting chords as well.  I pretty much let go of all the theory I know, and just play what sounds good.

A little bit of variation for you guys:
playing a brass instrument (e.g. trumpet) while stoned or shrooming is an incredibly strange but beautiful experience because you become intensely aware that your vibrating lips are causing this huge resonance and amplification and causing the entire instrument to vibrate.  Its really incredible.  You can just play slow pretty long tones and its this emotional beautiful experience.  But its also kind of hard to concentrate on actually playing a "real song" rather than just improvising and going with the resonance.

So strange how different it is from sober playing.

whoa I think I'm getting a contact high from your description. jk
But really though, the textured sounds that come out of a trumpet are amazing. Never played it myself but really enjoy listening.

A similar thing happens with electric guitar, distortion, and looping.  It's insanely cool to build soundscapes that way and then riff over them.

Uhm, preferably at neighborhood rocking volume.
