Slow Colonization

I was curious if slow colonization is anything to worry about? I've read it usually takes 2-3 weeks after inoculating to reach full colonization. Most of my jars are now at 95%-98% and it will be 4 weeks tomorrow which seems a little longer than expected.
My temperature ranges from 68-72 during the day and usually 62-64 at night. Is the slower colonization a typical result of a slightly cooler than ideal temperatures? Any concerns there? The jars seem fine besides a few areas of fluffy looking mycelium which I was told isn't an issue.

I've got some jars colonizing very rapidly right now and the sweet spot seems to be about 82 deg but they're in a very clean environment. Higher temps also mean more chance of contams...

nothing to be concerned about your cakes are taking longer because of the temp.

definitely sounds like a temp problem but the moisture content of the substrate can also affect growth rate

Sounds like temps are a little too low.

I've got the same problem, though my temp ranges 77-80F. I inoculated 5 BRF cakes 7 days ago and 4 had trich all over them after a few days and I threw them away (see recent "Trich contam troubleshooting" thread). The one remaining seems to be colonizing incredibly slowly... not sure what to do.

makomayer, be patient, if the cake isnt contaminated (and you're lucky, if all the other 4 got trich) then just leave it me and let the mycelium colonize.

Yes, like everyone else allready said, your temperatures are a little low.

Maybe it just seems slow compared to the fast growing mold in the other jars. That doesn't seem too bad for 7 days after inoculation with spores.

PE and B+ both want at least 80* and 83*-85* is better. This is verm+rye flour in 1/2 pint jars per PF and what I read on line. Get the temps there and cut off all light, leave them alone so as not to shock them with light and cold, and they'll go total ghost in a couple weeks tops.

NOT
Keep it around room temp. 80F max. Above 80 and you're giving contams the perfect home to squat in.
Let your colonizing jars get indirect sunlight. Put them on a shelf or somewhere.

Temperature is a lesser factor than moisture content in my experience. The rule that a drier substrate performs better than a wetter one is valid. I recently knocked up some jars that took forever to colonize due to their high water content and I got this confirmed.
Highter temps in jars will most likely lead to cobweb, there is no need to heat your jars and if you do so there is no accurate way to control the temperature.
Just leave them be and theyll colonize:)
