Do Schizophrenics still get institutionalized?

Do they still do that, or is it old school out of practice?
I feel like I'm slipping away. Losing my grasp on reality. Really having a rough time. Half of me wants to get the attention/meds etc I need, the other half wants my freedom.
My macbook. My Cigarettes, the ability to go to wal-mart if I like. My iPhone. etc.
Plus I fear the old school shit.
"Shock" baths
Elctro shock therapy
injections
tests
etc.

Yes, I believe they do. But I think it's for the people who completely lose touch of reality and can't take care of themselves. I don't think they have institutions where they do all that crazy shit anymore though. At least not in America(I hope). I think they've been phased out. When you say "injections" do you mean the medications they give you in injection form? As far as things like shock therapy. They only do that when nothing else works as a last resort. If you do end up in an institution make sure your family checks up on you often. To make sure they're not doing any dehumanizing shit. Good luck bro. I hope everything works out for you.

Most schitzophrenics are prescribed hardcore antipsychotics and outpatient treatment. Locking people up is reserved for criminals and people who absolutely can't function in society. Shock therapy is virtually unheard of in most countries these days. Injections of antipsychotics are still very common.
If you go to a doctor and talk about any symptoms you have, you're not going to get locked up. That's really not even an option. They're just going to lazily prescribe you an antipsychotic (probably either seroquel, zyprexa, abilify, risperdal, etc.) and send you on your way. You'll still have your freedom.

This
Electro-convulsive shock therapy is if no other treatment has ANY effect. It's probably in your interests at that point.

Find me in the backyard, sailing my kettle. Playing poker with insects, wearing a cup of tea. A hat of brimstone, yellow-crimson, looking like a giant flea. Forever my friend: so my energy this day I lend, I practice faking it to pretend, and become the actor in the end. My folly hangs on the trees like leaves and drips in the falling breeze, the tock of a minute here shakes me to my knees.

Hang in there Bundy, and quit smoking. You need to take care of your body if you want your mind to overcome this shit

How many psychedelic users — in any country — actually give
time to the local church soup kitchen, helping to feed the homeless and
hungry? How many of us, having had the experience, under the influence
of the visionary drugs, of seeing all human beings as incarnations of God,
have gone down to the local hospital to give affection and a listening ear to
lonely patients who need somebody to talk to? How many of us regularly
visit a jail, to provide spiritual and emotional support to confused, damaged
people who have grown up unloved, uneducated and unguided by their
confused, damaged parents -Alexander Shulgin

You're going to get physically forced into a mental institution if you're a risk to yourself or anything around you. You may get ask if you want to voluntarily spend a few days in a ward if you're distressed or delusional about your current environment but it sounds as though this would make you worse. I'm not sure how it works where you live but when I spent two days in the ward, I still had a decent amount of freedom, there was a gym, TV, DVD player, kitchen with free food.
Stay strong!
