Work Dilemma
    #15800457 - 02/12/12 09:16 PM (3 months, 14 days ago)

So my job is seasonal, meaning that we don't work the months of January and February. At the end of last season I planned on going back in March but recently I've become pretty pissed at my company. I was promised a bonus back in December, waited for it for a month, was lead on that I was still getting it, then told I wasn't receiving it because of some bullshit stipulations. This isn't the only thing they've fucked me over on.

So I told myself "fuck that, I'm definitely not going back" but I've yet to find another job. I was thinking about going back just temporarily, swallowing my pride, and making some god damn money until I find another job (because I am BROKE). They're even going to pay me 50 cents more than last season so that makes it somewhat enticing. But I think I would feel so...degraded. My parents are telling me not to go back. But I feel kind of desperate. I'm confused guys :frown:

Just work for them till you get another job then don't work there anymore. Working somewhere you don't like will just give you more motivation to find somewhere better.

The best time to look for a job is when you already have one.

Yea, like the others said, just go back to it but make sure your prime directive is to find another job.  Maybe even go back part-time so you don't sink into staying at that job simply out of habit, and spend the extra time job hunting.

Hmmm, maybe I should take your guys' advice. I'm so mad about all of it though. I'd kind of feel like a pussy going back.

If it makes you feel any better, I worked a seasonal job shoveling this winter, got let go after two weeks along with several others (not as much snowfall as the owner expected), then had to fight to get payment.  And I mean fight.  I don't know what it is about labor jobs but getting "screwed over" seems to be a common trend.  Anyway, if I was hard up for cash and he offered to take me back, I doubt I'd take it.  It's a pride thing.  Not having money sucks and you have to measure your situation, but I hate feeling castrated and having to put up with it.

I totally understand you, but if you need money, you should probably do the job.

I'm currently working a job I don't like, but I have an interview lined up with an amazing company and I'm hoping I can land that job and move on.

It is pretty hard to find the time to look for jobs when you're working full time, I know some people could do it but I never could.  Finding a good job is like a job in itself.

If the job you are doing makes you miserable you shouldn't go back, if you can tolerate the work I would say stick it out until something better comes along, there's no shame in that.

I've learned that when I say something like "I'm not going back there" it is only a matter of time until I am gone, it always goes downhill once I start to get angry.  I just can't work for people I resent.  The temptation to be a shit employee out of spite becomes overwhelming and that is not how I want to be spending my time.

Hope things work out for ya, If you are unsure maybe give it a try and see how it feels.

Keep in mind you can always look online at night and go out with resumes on weekends

YES!!! THIS!!!  you need the money clara... you know the job just don't bust your ass for the friggin bonus that you'll never receive again... from what i've learned everyone seems to be posting on monster because the article was on how the internet is deeply effecting new papers...  people go to the net for everything now. the article claimed advertising has been deeply effected on so many levels and this is the only way a news paper makes money, very little is really made on distribution these days...

i can see it now... claire is going to find an awesome job on MONSTER.com and smile as the notice to resign is handed in...

what did charlie say?!? winning!!!! i just did a google search for a part time job... any part time job and over 1800 results came up in my area.  if your looking for a full time job, hopefully you'll have developed some skills as your old employer wants you back.  were the rules for this bonus clear and you did fail to meet the goals? or did he screw you and you're still entitled to the bonus because if so try to got it in writing if you don't intend to heed my advice and slack while looking...  just don't slack too much as this may tip your hand...

what would be really cool is if you could get away with filling applications online on his dime now that would be justice...

K~~~ :psychsplit:
