Crazy interesting story that troubled me due to the number of plot holes. Did some digging and found this:

Hmm, yeah. It always made no sense to me that his friend shot him, he made it sound like someone else came out of the bushes but not, that his friend shot him. Confused me.
I don't know what to believe... Powerful recount none the less.

Thats when you know its for real, when you're physically all fucked up and a calm and peace takes over and eases you to sleep.
Terminally ill people often seem to greatly improve right before the end. Its not improvement though, but your body reprioritizing, switching off all healing efforts and strain and get ready for death.
The mind/body has an inbuilt shutdown sequence.

It was such a relief to hear the bastard got 35 years. From the description of the offender's family and their comments, they sound like half assed scum as well.
They should give you the option to fuck the other guy up at least half as bad as you got it. I mean, chain the bastard up, grab a knife or a bat and get to work. It is a god damn shame, I'm so happy for this guy who pulled through.
