Best grown under a large canopy tree.
Plant at the base and guide it up.
Couple or three years should have something to be proud of....

like zaka said, plant in shade. they will climb up to light, thats what they are designed for. they can handle full sun, no prob, but they will grow more bushy rather than long vines, so if stems harvest is the goal, some shade and a place to climb be best. but they can handle lots of light if need be.
