Here is a picture of the fruit sliced open. The white over the seeds is the fruit. It has a very unique tangy flavor. This is connected to the seed coat. If you peel off the seed coat, it reveals the darker inner seed.

I'm actually trying the old standard (moist paper towels) this time instead of moss to germinate them. I just want to see how it compares.
I was expecting to see some of them beginning to germinate in the pod because I waited until the pod started to ferment a bit. But they don't seem to have matured at all.

You sell live plants or seeds? Would they produce fruit like that in the Gulf South?

They are listed as hardy in Zone 10. Pm me if you want to talk more about it.

Hi sorry to hijack your post but look I have many seedlings and they are growing big, they will soon dont fit in the humidity tent....

Im already hardening off to ambiental moisture. Do you know the span of time I can make them go from full humidity tent and no tent... I dont want them to die because they dried, also can they be transplanted to definitive site this size or should i wait before they are acclimatized??
thanx

Your pic makes it look as if your seedlings are already suffering from being out of the tent. That indicates that they have gotten used to the high humidity of the tent. It is not a matter of age when they can be removed from the tent. I have grown them without putting them in a tent at all. When they can be removed depends on their developed affinity for the 100% humidity of the tent. The longer they've been in their, the longer it will take to acclimate them. You should do it like salvia or any other plant. Gradually increase the time you have the plant out of the tent each day until they can remain firm without it. That limp posture of the leaves seems to indicate that they are not retaining the moisture on their own.

I also wanted to give a little update. As I mentioned, I was using paper towels this time as a germination medium instead of sphagnum moss. Instead of just folding them up in the towels, I crumpled the towels up with the seeds in the middle and put them in Chinese soup containers with the lids on. I change the towels every few days, and it seems to be working very well so far.

So here are some of the paper-towel-germinated seeds. I got 100% success rate this time. The only one that got any mold at all was the one in the second pic, but I just wiped it off and let it dry out a bit. The stem seems to be growing fine and it should pull through just fine. You'll notice I've "micro-mulched" the other with spaghnum moss. I used Aspen shavings (animal bedding) on another tray. Both seem to do the job.
