I'm trying to go to Sacramento, but I'm walking instead of driving, it's a 3 hour drive, how long will it take me?

Assuming you walk in 8-to-12-hour shifts, 3 days.
I'd say 24 to 36 hours of walking total. Depending on your speed, number of hills, and such.
Have fun. Hope you have a good thumb.

Let's say you walk 3 mph on average. And on average you drive 60 mph. If you were to be consistent the whole time it would take 60 hours. But there's a lot more variables than that so it could be more or less. Either way, it's gonna suck balls.

I can smash on a bike for short distances, normally going about 15 mph.

?????
I covered 10.6 miles in 1 hour and a half, 2 hours tops, and that was because 25% of the way my de-railer broke off and had to walk.

10 miles? Unless the terrain has lots of inclines and declines, I'd hope to go 15-20. Are you going to be hiking along the highway? I don't know how I'd feel about hiking on the shoulder, but the flat surface will make a quicker stride a lot easier.
If this voyage isn't because of some reasons beyond your control, I'd train for a week or two before. Just get a backpack, fill it up with some heavy books and hike around.

I'm used to backpacking. You don't want to plan for more than 10 miles a day. Unless you are just walking without 40 pounds on your back, you could obviously do a lot more.

Considering he'll probably be kicking it in civilization, he probably wont need to be packing 40 pounds. I guess it depends on the nature of his journey though.

You could pack bare essentials into a little school backpack. On cement you could cover an upwards of 20 miles easily.

I would probably skip the adderall, save it for a day when you aren't doing 10+ hours of exercise in my opinion. I just don't see much good coming from that at all.

Yeah, amazingly amphetamines don't increase strength and stamina. They do however help with alertness and appetite suppression.
I remember back in the day when I was using prescription speed a lot, replacing the cylinder head on my brothers Trooper, I was tired much quicker than I usually got, but I was able to push through it and get the job done right.
Oddly enough, when I used to drink my friend would buy me a 12pk and a bottle of liquor and we would do amazingly difficult stuff in half the time it usually took. We just had to be careful of what we were doing so we wouldn't round off or cross thread any bolts.
And I'm talking, pulling the exhaust, transmission, driveshaft, removing the engine and stripping it all down to a bare block in a little over 12 hours. Not bad for a Supercharged DOHC V8.

Solids and liquids are differentiated, one from the other, by the way the material responds to stress. If the material deforms and stays deformed, springs back when the stress is removed, it's a solid.
If instead the material flows when stressed, rearranges itself in such a way as to remove the stress, it's a liquid. . . .
We're gonna have to adapt if we expect to survive.

No one will give me a ride to pick up an 8 year old dog that's my EX friends dog, I never liked him having the dog in the first place. His dog is a dog that was never disciplined and was given affection and looked the other way when the dog did something wrong. Will be much different with me, it's an 85 lb dog, and my responsibility, If I don't pick him up, he will be euthanized. The dog is a great guardian, and companion. It's basically in my hands now. This is what the dog looks like.

i don't think you've really thought this through though dude. don't forget once you walk there, you have to walk back. so going by peoples estimates, thats 5-7 days there, which you will probably be half dead, starved and worn out by the time you arrive. maybe a day or so to recooperate, and then beginning another 5-7 days journey to return, with a dog. so thats a total of like 11-15 days all up making good pace with only 1 days rest.
your going to need a tent and all that stuff, loooots of water, food, clothes, etc etc. i don't think this is realistic. but then again i'm a novice in the outdoors and camping and may be wrong

I once tried to get home on my bmx bike from my grandma's (where I was living). Its a 45 minuet drive and I had no idea how to get back. just quit my job,No internet, no map. Went down some wrong road for like 15 miles then turned back. I was packin some weed and x but I was so pissed that I didn't wanna unwind that day. That town has no magic... from Wimberley to Austin.

While it's completely impractical, we're talking California here. It doesn't get that cold at night. He doesn't really need a tent.
And he shouldn't be too far from civilization, so food shouldn't be a huge issue.
Definitely a crazy option though. Is Greyhound really that expensive?

Walking for days at a time, then having to walk back to your home with a dog?
There are many many many variables you should consider aside from the time it takes to walk by foot.
Rent a car, borrow a car, have a friend drive you. But make no mistake about it... what you are planning on doing has a VERY high probability of ending up disastrous.

I can't even imagine walking a dog back for days on the side of the freeway in Cali. That has disaster written all over it.
OP should rethink their plans. Safety first.

At first I read this thread thinking this dude is fucking nuts. Now given the clarity of the situation, I think its great what your doing. I would suggest to TRY and find a ride back. That's gonna be pretty strenuous on an 8 year old dog. I'm glad my compassion for animals is shared here on the Shroomery. This sounds like something I'd do for an animal.

Great looking dog! If it is infact the exact one your going to be getting! Good vibes to you!

Look at it this way - you could probably work for the money for a greyhound ticket in 2-3 days, even if it's minimum wage. Find some 1-time gigs on craigslist, make a hundred or two, then bus down and back. That will literally take you less time.

If you don't want to drive there take the bus or hitchhike...

make no mistake about it: Dogs are NOT distance animals. This dog is NOT going to be able to keep up with you without COPIOUS amounts of water, food and rest.
One of our greatest advantages is our lack of body hair and the abundance of our sweat glands. We are able to stay cooler longer than most other animals on the planet, especially furry ones, due to our ability to thermo-regulate.
That dog could well die. It's a good thing it's winter and not summer but still.
Man this sucks. Try to get a ride one way or the other at least. Preferably on the way back.
Good on you for rescuing the dog though brethren. Be well!

How do you plan to walk back with a dog that doesn't listen and wasn't raised right? You going to hold a leash on it the whole way? Just expect it to follow you and not chase a squirrel or something off in to the woods? You should figure out something else =[

drewo - once you start walking the dog will follow easily enough, especially once it gets tired.
