Wow...I'm saddened... what's not to like? It's kind of a dark story but damn...it's such a great movie to me.

I enjoyed the first hour of the film, but got bored during the ~2hours of just flying round Tokyo looking at shitty porn.

Excellent movie, seen it twice. Some of it is dark an depressing, but the message at the core is a very good one. A movie I will not forget.

I thought it was a pretty decent film, but it is very bizarre and not for everyone. Having seen irreversible, I had a good idea what I was in for.
Some imagery from the movie still flashes through my mental from time to time.

Spot on response bother. I watched Irreversable after I saw this, not as good of a flick if you ask me. It did have some powerful imagery, though.
But Enter the Darkness, those scene will definitely stay with me, in a good way.

not a movie for people with short attention spans or if you just want a laugh. i really liked it, as well as Noe's other film Irreversible. the first watch was kind of rough because i wasn't sure what everything about but on the second watch, as with most films, it was more rewarding because you pick up on a lot more of the symbolism and foreshadowing. i thought it was brilliant directing all the way through though, it's worth watching just for that aspect. i'm looking forward to more of Noe's stuff. i heard him say he wants to do a porno for fun, not surprising. has anyone seen his first film the butcher?

i've only seen one other of the three films he's made: Irreversible. it's just as dark but the directing is phenomenal as well in this one. it has the same style as enter the void, each scene is one continuous shot and the camera does some really weird revolving stuff that is neat. you have to watch this one more than once as well because it's structured in reverse chronological order like Momento. lots of foreshadowing and symbolism. good cast, has the hot french lady from the second Matrix in it and Vincent Cassel, the french dude from Ocean's 12. fun fact, Cassel was/is married to the actress that plays his gf in the film (lucky guy). check it out

I agree with pretty much everything Prof. Tibbs is saying. Irreversible is awesome and Noe is a fantastic director. His first movie, I Stand Alone, is definitely worth watching. The directing is a bit more straight forward then his next two movies but it's still just as good and interesting. The writing is also interesting as well in the way that it challenges the audience.

i watched that shit in a k hole. As someone said, about an hour into it, i was absolutely stunned and seriously thought the movie was leading to something that would fuck em up pretty bad.
So i paused it and watched the end in a different k hole, a different time.
super intense, but not much plot/anything happening. It doesn't go anywhere.

the plot is pretty straightforward, metaphorically speaking that is. it follows the point of view of the protagonist from the moments before his death to the moments in between his reincarnation, up to his second birth. if you aren't familiar with the tibetan book of the dead then it seems like it's all random but that's the point of the plot where alex, the protagonist's friend, explains what the book is about. if you pay attention to his description of the book, that's exactly what the film proceeds to show you.
but the protagonist doesn't get it, listen to his reaction after alex explains the theory of the book, and look at alex's reaction. the protagonist (what's his name?) is 'stuck in the cycle'. the cycle is what the film shows you, this one dude's life as a series of events that shaped who he was up until his death. watch it again, you'll see what i'm talking about.
edit: hurr durr trippy movie bro

Lol, pedantic much? nigged.
I knew all that, the second half is still boring. perhaps instead of directionless i should have said the plot crawls.
edit: also nice plot spoils, double nigged.

I thought it was great. I agree with the second statement though. it's almost like false advertising, everything about this movie screamed "TRIP MOVIE TRIP MOVIE" but if i watched that shit on a good dose i'd be turning it off after the first 20 minutes or so because the whole thing is like designed to put you in a negative thought loop.

It's visually and conceptually ambitious as hell. The camerawork alone is worth watching it for, although I'm a photographer so I get off on that stuff.
I do think Irreversible is a better film though, albeit slightly more disturbing (for me at least).

Haven't read the whole thread so sorry if someone posted it already... OP check out "Seul Contre Tous" AKA "I Stand Alone". I think it's the first movie of Gaspar Noe. (rumours are he's making a new movie which sounds pretty good).
Also check out la cité des enfants perdus (city of lost childen) and delicatessen. Not as fucked up as Gaspar's work but still pretty trippy nontheless.

vouching for delicatessen. and there's another tripy movie... it involves typewriters that turn into giant bugs, and hallucinogenic/deleriant drugs. I think Major Winters from Band of Brothers is in it, Damian Lewis?

Hmm, I really liked it too, don't remember much of the ending though (idk why I always forget the endings of movies). But maybe I'll re-watch it, this time with my new headphones .
I haven't seen irreversible or delicatessen though
