when to give up?
    #15803412 - 02/13/12 01:49 PM (3 months, 14 days ago)

Been waiting 9 days for pinning to occur and still nothing. At what point should i just give up? yes they're fully colonized and the conditions are right.

Wait AT LEAST 2 full weeks before even thinking about getting rid of them, and even then, wait a third week.

well i don't want to wait until they mold or something due to the fact that i have heard of using the colonized cakes in juice. if they won't pin i'd at least like to be able to try this out

12/12 light, FAE, and humidity should do it

yes yes, the redundancy on this site is baffling. theory and practice are two different things. i'm more or less looking for someone who has ran into this problem before.

Anyone who has run into this problem before was told the same exact things as you have been told in this thread. We can't grow them for you so we can only suggest what you should be doing. Which is a 12/12 light cycle, fanning as often as you can, making sure your mycelium doesn't dry out, maintaining proper humidity, and patience.

9 days? Shit I waited 23 days once before I saw a pin. You can't make them grow, but you can assist them. They work on their own time.

Are we talking cakes here?

MS or iso?

SGFC have 1/4" holes 2" apart on all six sides with 4" or so of perlite.

Do you have bricks or something under your SGFC to raise it up and allow airflow?

Did you let you cakes sit and consolidate for at least a week after 100% colonization?

your kidding right ,, every grower worth there salt who have grown has had a delayed pinning , of course its all comes down to opinion weather its delayed or not .... two weeks is considered all right ,

You only need one thread for this man.

Since you mentioned it in this thread - don't juice your cakes. Give them ample opportunity to fruit. They will, and the active alkaloid content of the cake won't be considerable until after the mycelium has fruited anyway.

It's the waytogo.

Just stick with it dude. Mist very lightly and then fan the shit out of them. You're bound to get some pinnage soon.

ok well that's more along the lines of what i'm looking for. there's a million and a half threads on conditions and how to grow. so it does get rather annoying hearing the same thing a million times instead of getting a straight answer.

Edit: Got a better look at the small pictures in your other thread. Ignore this post, tho it's still relevant to people with this issue and question.

You get so irked at the answer...

... But are you so sure you didn't need it??
From looking at your other thread on this, I can't say you don't.

Your pictures show a poor and incomplete fruiting chamber.
I'm quite sure they're not getting the air they need.
They may very well "think" they're still invitro.

Sure, they may pin and fruit anyway, but continually improve and fine-tune your conditions, and watch their performance and speed shoot through the roof of your expectations.

You only asked "At what point should I just give up?"
You didn't ask for suggestions, tips, ANYTHING. You included that "the conditions are right." There's nothing else to tell you other than to keep waiting. After ~4 weeks you'll probably want to throw them out.

"At what point should i give up" is a question capable of a definite answer. it's not rhetorical. the question is for a time i.e. 2-4weeks after birthing.

Unfortunately, it is indeed NOT a question capable of a definite answer. You may want one, but you're the only person who's in the right circumstance to tell...

Well, I gave you two answers. I said to wait at least 2 full weeks before getting worried and throw them out after 4 weeks. If you've met all these conditions there isn't much else you can do.

If the conditions are right then I'm assuming you:
- let the mycelium consolidate for 1 full week before birthing
- submerged the cakes in water for a full 24 hours
- then rolled them in dry verm
- are misting and fanning the cakes properly
- Using a shotgun fc
- Giving the cakes light for 12 hours each day
- Rinsed and strained the perlite that you are using in your fc
- Using 3-5 inches of perlite
- and the temperature is in the mid 70s (fahrenheit)

we were fanning too much- overly concerned about FAE- and killing our humidity.  after we stopped opening the FC so many times a day, we started having success after 3 days.

its takes time but once it works it's worth all the work!
