 school project for school. please comment and help.

hey friends, i could really use some feedback for a paper i'm writing. what i need to know is how people on here who like to listen to music while in altered states of conscious might differentiate themselves from those who don't. i'm pressed for time so i can only post one or two quick questions before i get back on after work. a couple points i need input on are:
how do you use music?
how would we define music differently than your dictionary definition?

I use music therapeutically. I'm not musically talented in any way shape or form, yet it's a neccessity for me to keep my sanity. It shows if I go a few days without blasting a few choice tunes. I become negative, moody, and less happy in general.
The fact that I don't understand the way music works only provokes a deeper love for the art. I think the mystery of it gets to me. It blows my mind that I can't understand it, yet music is still such an, innate, primal instinct that it has such a strong impact onl my life.
To me music is single handedly the most efficient form of catharsis an artist can acheive. Without instruments playing in the background it would be extremely dificult for the artist to express their emotions and feelings through direct verbalization. Nobody would want to listen to somebody with a microphone bitch about their shit.
Anyway, good luck with the paper. Let me know if this helped and if I can help some more.

I use music to relax, chill, watch porn, play video games, watch movies, post on the shroomery, walk, do drugs, go to class, visit the family, and sleep. Music is EVERYTHING

Lolmao. I'm lovin' it so far. If you could be more specific in just one little thing, but don't limit yourself to this. What would you most simply define music as? An example would be like some kids in my class reduced it to the intent of someone to convey a feeling to another person by way of poetry or instrumentation. Do you guys agree with that or do you have a new twist you could put on it from the perspective of using dr00gz? I know my musical appreciation has opened TREMENDOUSLY since the first time I smoked weed. It's thoroughly surprised me to be able to sit enjoy music for hours on end that I used to think I would never have an ear for; not only that, but some music I dig now I used to brush off and say that it just sucked. I can now see that my mind just wasn't open enough to listen for the appreciation of talent in a completely different genre or sincerity of a person who may not be the fastest guitarist but somehow can implement a sense of "soul," into their music, or other things, like making music sound "groovy." these were things I had no concept of before I listened to music high. Also since I've been using weed to play guitar I can attest to a HUGE difference. Before this I had never just "flowed" something out of my fingers, but there is really an ability to be guided by your mind under the influence of that plant goddess (at least for me). What I describe this as which seems to make the most sense is that "it lets my soul speak." any thoughts on this or noticed similarities? Or any original thoughts?

Damn, I'm the wrong person to ask for a definition from. Since I started using drugs music has turned into a collaboration of sound waves that follow a few rules of time and pitch. It's a simple definition and won't make your paper much more insightful, but it's probably a definition that you wouldn't get from many other people.
