First Grow. Reishi Mushroom Harvest.

Hey guys, figured I'd post up some pictures of what I got from my first grow which was reishi mushrooms. To clarify, I had sterilized and inoculated jars once before while doing a joint cubensis grow with a friend so I had some (very little) prior experience, but this was the first real grow of mine that I got to control from start to finish.
I had a reishi LC which I could of used directly but I wanted to try making some petri dishes and doing some agar as well, so I transferred some to plates that I made. From there, inoculated rye grain, then to sawdust. I made up bags and put them in my greenhouse and also tried a "monotub-esque" grow.
Sadly, I tossed the bags after a long while of seeing no growth. I was getting ready to toss the tub too, but ended up forgetting about it and two weeks or so later I noticed some growth. So at least I ended up with some yield!
I also used this grow as a biology project for college on the process of growing mushrooms. So not only was it a fun learning experience, I also aced a big project because of it. Win-win!
Anyway, the yield wasn't huge but I'm still pretty psyched.

Just finished up having a cup of reishi/green tea combination. Tasted great. Really satisfying feeling getting to enjoy some homegrown medicinal mushrooms! Hoping to get some more jars going here soon so that by the time this harvest is up I'm well on my way to having some more. Here is my dry yield. Just a little over an ounce. Not a huge amount but I used a pretty small amount today and yielded quite a bit of powerful tea. It will last me a while at a medium sized cup each morning combined with a little green tea.

And some beautiful medicinal tea.

Cheers! And a big thanks to many of you for all your help along the way. Tons of super helpful people on here, it's much appreciated.

Yeah I just used a sharp serrated steak knife on a cutting board. It was very easy. They are tough as nails now that they are dehydrated but when fresh they can be sliced up pretty easily with a serrated blade. They definitely are tough though. I tried using a non-serrated blade first and that did not go well at all.

I see you've got totally-tyvek lids there. Any issue with the top of spawn drying out? When I do that, or anything similar, the tiptop of my grains dry out and don't colonize much.

They aren't totally tyvek. They have the regular canning jar lids on top, with holes in them and then tyvek over that. So I've zero problems with them drying out. These things actually colonized the jar like crazy. All the way up and completely around the rim of the jar even where there was no grain. It was pretty crazy how beastly this mycelium was.

Thats the walgreens ultrasonic I just got! It works great! Neat setup. Think it would work for two larger(4 tier) greenhouses? Or should I get another one? I got it for $40 with tax a couple weeks ago Seems to be on sale for that price now

I have a Vicks Ultrasonic, but that thing puts off so much damn moisture... I don't even know what to do about it. My greenhouse was always too wet. I can't imagine that that much moisture is the right way to approach it. Maybe I need to tweak my setup in some way but I considered getting rid of it for something else.

I am running one into a 4 by 4 by 8 grow room. I pipe it in. it is on a timer to run for half an hour ten times a day. five hours total per day. It keeps things plenty humid but I have to fill it about every other day. I also end up spraying down my blocks for extra moisture. I also pipe it into three tubs at fifteen minutes six times a day. They are easy to modify if you take a piece of thin walled three quarter inch pvc and warp it into an oval with a pair of plyers. It will then fit right into the oval hole that the mist comes out of. squirt in some silicone and you can pipe the mist anywhere you like.
