Trichnocereus Peruvianus (Peruvian Torch Cactus) growing

So I ordered an 18 inch Peruvian Torch cactus. After reading The Doors of Perception, how could I resist the Mescaline rabbit hole? Any who's it.. I want to grow it in my room. My window only gets about 2 hours of direct light a day, but is other wise fairly bright. Does this seem sufficient for this type of cactus? Maybe the lack of perfect condition will even increase alkaloid content?

maybe , but this will be offset by slower than normal growth. i prescribe getting her outside with plenty of heat and light.

How fast do you think it will grow with this western facing window? Also, what the optimal lighting for fast growth?

a western facing window sounds o.k but for optimal growth, they can handle full sun all day i.m.e unless you notice the skin paling/yellowing. if that happens , then its time to give some shade or reduce amount of light hours. the true magic of cacti is the way they slowly captivate you as they grow , making it almost impossible to harvest them.

just morning sun will stunt the growth or cause etiolated growth i recommend more sunlight especially if the temp is below 90 F during summer growth, Trichs like heat and can go dormant when the average temp is 50. mine just started to grow again but the daytime temp is around 70-75 degrees and nights are 40-45 but they are in a green house at night so it shouldn't drop below 50. but this is just relevant to where i live if you dont live in the desert you will get decent growth at 80 F year round i dont know how it affects the alkaloids, i do know that the alkaloids increase with age after reading about grafting so the older the plant is the better, size is conditional to alkaloid content you cant really judge unless you know how old it is

Alright thanks for the info. On a side note, when I take a cutting from the plant, should I make any changes to the amount of light / water the original portion of the plant receives? And how much light should the cutting get once it's scabbed over and re-potted?

No, you do not need to adjust the light/water you provide to the mother plant. You can put the cutting in the same lighting that it came from. It is used to that, so it will be fine. Less light would also be acceptable though. But do not water it until the roots have formed or it increases your chances of rot.
